“Charming old hotel”

Nice historical hotel combining a modern outlook with the heritage of the past. Location is in a somewhat average part of town. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well equipped. It would be a good idea to add a small safe in each room. Good food. Friendly and helpful staff. Overall, good value and pleasant stay.

We had a very pleasant stay here while attending an antiques show at York Expo Center nearby. The staff was very pleasant and didn't charge us the extra fee for parking, breakfast, or pet fee, all of which were anticipated. The room was big and clean and the king size bed was very comfortable and the entire place was very quiet. We didn't mind not having a flat screen TV, the 32 inch tube set was just fine with HBO besides. Ask for a room on a high floor, as the city views are really nice. The breakfast vouchers they gave us were for a continental breakfast or $7 credit towards a cooked to order from the menu. We realized too late that the menu features are only $1-$2 more. The spacious lobby and old woodwork and elevators give a true sense of a grand old hotel from the 1920s. The old mail chute next to the elevators still works, which was pretty cool. A very pleasant departure from even the high end hotels, which are higher priced. The Yorktowne is really in a class of its own. We shall definitely come back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the upper floors with a city view. Rinse the AC filter under the bath faucet befor...

Located in a somewhat iffy section of downtown York, this hotel captures the opulence of yesteryear with a modern sensibility. The lobby is impressive with high ceilings and a grandeur not matched by the furnishings.. There is a formal dining room and elevators with a framed list of celebrities that visited, ranging for Ella Fitzgerald and the Buddy the Cake Boss. There is a business center with a single computer and, according to the front desk, complimentary wif-fi available throughout the building.I appreciated the well lit hallways. There are onsite restaurants. Check in and check out was a snap.

My room was located on the eight floor. The view of York was stupendous. The room was spacious, more like a studio apartment than a guest room. There was a kitchenette complete with glasses and plates, a burner, sink and coffee maker. The only thing lacking was a small refrigerator. There was a relatively uncomfortable settee and a flat screen TV in a wood armoire. The bed was quite comfortable. The bathroom was immaculate with a great Delta shower-head. I found the decor pleasant. The wallpaper had a gentle damask pattern and the window dressing and bedding featured cabbage roses in shades of burgundy. I had a good night's sleep and woke relaxed and refreshed.

This is a challenge blending old world charm with modern amenities and while not perfect, this hotel is definitely headed in the right direction. My room was clean, quiet and comfortable with pleasing touches. However,I was surprised that they use metal keys instead of the more modern (and safer) key cards. The front desk did not extend themselves, not rude but not accommodating. But overall, I enjoyed my stay and would come again.

Everything about the hotel was very pleasant. There was low cost valet parking, clean rooms, very quiet at night, polite staff and low priced room service. The location was right in downtown York. The building was maintained very well.

Working with Dottie in the Sales Department to plan a group marriage retreat for April 2014.
The Yorktowne Hotel, built in 1925, is a member of Historic Hotels of America.
Even though built long ago, the modern era slips in with flat screen televisions,
Complimentary WiFi, etc. The formal dining room, no longer serving lunch and dinner
may be used for private functions. Old time Elegance.
If you have breakfast, try the French Toast with Carmel and Banana Topping. Yummy
My group will enjoy this property, I feel confident.

Room Tip: No pool on property. There is a Spa, I did not use it. I had a King room on 8th floor overlooking...

It wasn't anything fancy, but it certainly felt old and historic.

The room was nice and clean, while the staff was friendly. The hotel was very centrally located which allowed us to walk around the downtown area and enjoy dinner and drinks.
The bed was comfortable and we were pretty high up, with a nice view of York.

Overall, it wasn't expensive and it was very nice

Room Tip: The higher you are, the better the view is.

I am one who certainly enjoys history and historical places. The Yorktown Hotel does have some historical charm, but not much more. Built in the 1920's, the hotel does a good job of keeping the flavor of that era, but just couldn't get me to think elegant. They have a wide selection of rooms and suites which are well appointed. We attended a wedding & reception there which was well done, and very nice in their ballrooms. The city of York, Pa also has a lot of charm, with many vintage buildings and architectural styles in the downtown area, but there is a fine line between downtown and areas you might not want to be in after dark. Quite a variety of restaurants and pubs nearby. Again, a nice hotel, but walking down one long hallway, I couldn't help but flashback to the hotel in "The Shining."

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms have a nice view.
