While the food was up to par, the atmosphere needed help. Also, another plus, the service is fantastic, but the surroudings don't really allow you to appreciate the high points.

Roadhouse Restaurant
York, Pennsylvania
August 18, 2006

While visiting relatives in the Lancaster area, my wife and I found the Roadhouse via the Yellow Pages. The menu sounded good so we visited on a Friday night.

Complete American Menu with a full list of steaks and seafood. The main courses were large and well prepared. i had the queen size prime rib which was a least 16 oz. and well prepared. My wife had one of the 4 broiled seafood platters and the shrimp, scallops, haddock and crabcakes were pletiful and perfectly cooked.

The sides were family affair ranging from glazed carrots to mashed potatoes to red potato salad to peach fritters. The sides were not large but they were tasty with the stuffed potato being especially good.

This is not a fancy restaurant and you do not go here for the ambiance. But the service is excellent. The menu is extensive and the food is well above average. This is not a chain but a local restaurant run for years by a mother and daughter.

Wine list is fair but reasonably priced. Two full meals with a bottle of wine + nice tip ran $60. How can you beat this for value.
I strongly recommend and will return on my next visit.

While on the road after a long trip we decided we were hungry. We didn't want a "chain" place and hoped we'd find something that locals clearly went to. Then we saw The Road House and said, "let's try here."

What great luck! There was an old-fashioned feel to the place. The food and service were wonderful. We really thought is was a good value.

Look forward to the next time, as we will definitely make the trip to have dinner there again.

was good the first couple times we went but one sunday my boyfriend and i went into dinner(in just jeans and t-shirts) they told us 60 min. wait so we waited more than 60 min.'s and my boyfriend went up and asked if our table was ready they said no just a few min.'s. so we stood there right by the host's desk and heard them let 3 groups that walked in after us then a group of ten they asked if they had reservations they said no and they let them right though we heard them say we'll have to slit you up but come this way and my boyfriend told them he was calling the manager and we left so dont go in in a t-shirt and jeans and go in large groups

Great food and service with affordable prices. We drive to the Roadhouse from Baltimore atleast once a month. Their Creamy Crab Soup always makes the trip worth while. We've never had a bad experience.
