The York Revolution have been playing baseball at Sovereign Bank Stadium since June 2007. The stadium has several interesting features, such as a manual scoreboard and "Archnemesis" (similar to the Green Monster at Fenway). The Atlantic League, of which the York Revolution is a part, seeks to have a family-friendly, fun atmosphere, which they do very well. The mascot, DownTown, is pretty entertaining when he (or she) is out. There are contests during innings and sometimes there giveaways like bobbleheads and umbrellas. There is a nice playground with carousel for the kids. You do have be aware of foul balls and broken bats flying into the stands. Also, a canon is shot off before each game and when the Revs score a home run. Occasionally the music/loudspeaker is louder than it needs to be, but that is the only complaint I have ever had. The food isn't bad for a ballpark and there is a team store where you can buy souvenirs and apparel. The restrooms are spacious (with the exception of the small one near the team store) and they do have a family restroom and first aid station. Fireworks are shot off on Saturday nights and on July 4th. I think that this stadium has been a great addition to downtown York and I have found it to be more fun and more convenient than going to the Baltimore Orioles. Many of the players have played for the major league teams at one time or another in their careers. Both of the former managers played for the Baltimore Orioles. This year brings a new manager who I don't know a whole lot about. He would like to keep the games moving along so they won't last more than 3 hours unless there are extra innings. I always have a good time at the Revs and I am not much of a sports person. Let's go REVS!
Going to see the Revolution play is such a treat! we are lucky to have season tickets just behind their dugout so we see the action fairly close. The guys are usually considerate which makes it fun to cheer them on. When they designed the stadium, they did something right cause it's always a pleasure to go and if you have to change your tickets, the customer service people are generally on their toes and willing to help.
The stands are spread out well for moving from one end of the stadium to another and food stands are numerous, but keep an eye on the game because you never know when a foul ball may rock your world! One zipped by me head so close I felt the air wave near my head and several food stand employees had to jump out of the way!
Sovereign Bank Stadium is a very nice and well maintained small town baseball park. Prices are high, but after all this is a baseball park. The location near downtown York is great and parking is ample. Just watch where you buy your seats so you do not end up with a bad sunburn.
I'm just starting to teach my son about sports. And this is a great way for him to get out there for a great price. The food isn't priced bad and my son loved all the fun activities in the corner. A great way to make memories with your family and not have to drop your whole paycheck on it either.
I was quite impressed with how clean and modern the stadium was. The food and beer options were varied and good. There really is no bad seat in the house either. I like how they always have some kind of promo for the games, too. There really is not anything I don't like about the stadium.
