After losing power during Hurricane Sandy, we reserved a room at Country Inn, Carlson in Wyomissing. Check in was fast and efficient, and about a half hour after I entered my room, the front desk called to make sure that I was happy with the room. After an hour long nap on a very comfortable bed, my husband called to tell me that our power had just been turned on. Dismayed that we had paid $120.00 for nothing, I went to the front desk to see if they would refund us. They were quick to say, "Of course"!
We really appreciated the kindness of the staff at Country Inn and I can say that the short time I was in the room was quite comfortable!

We were out in the Reading area for a College Open House & husbands Alvernia Reunion. We have stayed in other hotels in the Reading area, and thought to give this one a try. First of all it was located right off Rt. 422 (so an easy on/off). Clean hotel, courteous and professional staff, and cookies waiting for you after a long drive from Jersey, a welcome sight!!! Indoor pool and hot tub, that was hot at night, but not in morning on the day of check out and actually had time to enjoy it. We asked someone to at least make it warm, but no one knew how, and said they had to call out to maintenance?? That part was dissapointing, as no one fixed it. Beds are pillow topped and extremely comfy!! Breakfast was great, and Gail a gem!!! Always perky and happy, even at the earliest of hours! Hot and cold foods were of an abundance! Bacon and eggs on Saturday, and Sausage gravy and biscuits on Sunday as well as make your own waffles.

We arrived in the middle of a horrendous downpour after a confusing exit off the Interstate, but that was the end of our problems. The Country Inn staff was terrific, the rooms clean and comfortable, the breakfast warm and inviting, but the best thing of all was the delicious "snack" at 5:00. I'm sure this was being offered because of the nice group of young men staying there for training, but we were included and made to feel very welcome. Since it was still pouring rain we didn't have to go out in it to find a restaurant for dinner. Such a relief. Thank you Country Inn staff....you're great!!!

On Friday after work, I decided to look into staying a local hotel just for the fun of it. So my 9 year old and I drove to the Country Inn in Wyomissing, PA, not knowing if there would be any rooms available or the cost. We were greeted so nicely at the desk and given a very, very nice room at a reasonable price. We then proceeded to settle in, I brought lunch, drink and snacks, and it has a refrigerator, which was great. We got our bathing suits on and went to the pool; it was very, very clean, as was the hot tub.
The next morning we had a fabulous breakfast and went swimming again. Then we gathered most of our bags together and went to my daughter's Saturday morning practice, then came back at about 11:00, checked out, and proceeded to go swimming again and use the facilities before we left.
It was such a pleasant surprise to have things go so smoothly, even though we had no plans. We'd look forward to the next time we feel like getting away, but not having to travel:)))

although my wife and I have stayed in other hotels in the Reading area we inevitably end up back here as it is such good value. The staff are always very friendly(check out Gail when you go for breakfast-she's always very helpful). We always have a suite as the extra room comes in handy for all the clothes and shoes you end up buying in Reading! The free hot breakfast is definitely a plus and the indoor pool and hot tub are an added bonus. All in all this a great place to stay if you are in the area for a few days. The only slight downside for us was the closure of the TGIF across the street but thats nothing to do with the hotel. In any case there are plenty of eating and drinking places not far from the hotel. We'll be back next month for a short stay and we've booked in here again

We didn't stay here by choice, but by necessity. We had a King suite, which was simply outstanding. To be honest, I didn't know anything of Country Inns & Suites, but this property was so good, I will look for it every time now.

Large comfortable rooms, squeaky clean, with many amenities including two TV's, and a work station. The complimentary breakfast was as good as any I've ever had.

All in all, a surprisingly great value.

When we're in the area, we book The Courtyard by Marriott which is right down the street from the Country Inn and Suites. However, much to our surprise, it was booked solid for the dates we wanted. So, the Country Inn and Suites became our second choice. We have Marriott Rewards and have gotten used to the fact that all Marriotts are smoke free. When I booked the Country Inn and Suites I almost forgot to make sure that we got a non-smoking room. Of course, all the cheapest non-smoking rooms were booked so we booked a suite.

What we liked that was better than the Courtyard:

1) Full free breakfast. At the Courtyard, unless you pay extra for a breakfast included package, you have to pay for breakfast. Of course, it's not cheap nor is it something to write home about. At the Country Inn, breakfast was okay and edible. Each day, there were scrambled eggs. Some days there were sausages, other days either diced ham or bacon. Some days there are home fries, other days, not. There are hot and cold cereals plus a make your own waffles station. Also, every day breakfast is served until 10 a.m while the Courtyard stops breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on weekdays.

2) Every room has a tub in the bathroom. Some of the rooms in the Courtyard have shower stalls. The water pressure at the Country Inn and Suites was excellent! Plus the knobs for the shower were very straight forward and uncomplicated.

3) The Courtyard is very close to freight train tracks while the Country Inn and Suites is far enough away to not hear any train noise.

4) The Country Inn and Suites is closer to the Wyomissing Boulevard interchange for Route 422 which made coming and going much easier.

What we didn't like:

1) The area by all the side entrances was not well lighted. Plus, if you return to the hotel after 11 p.m. you either have to use the side entrances or pick up the house phone by the front door, dial "0" and tell the person on the other end what your room number was. We tried that and were told that someone would be downstairs in a minute to let us in. After waiting several minutes, we had to use the side door.

2) The room card key can easily get deactivated. We were told that this can happen if it is kept too close to your cell phone. That never happened to us before at any hotel!

3) We found the bed to be too soft---softer than the ones at the Courtyard. That said, we prefer a firmer bed but realize that that is our preference.

4) The immediate area around the hotel is rather desolate. We had a view of the defunct TGI Fridays across the street. Next to the hotel, is an all but abandoned parking lot for the outlet stores that is weedy and overgrown.

Overall, the staff is friendly and helpful for the most part. One day, the maid forgot to give us a new box of tissues. I went to the front desk and was given 2 boxes plus an apology. The rooms are kept properly cleaned.

Some people think that this hotel is looking tired. I wonder if that is more of a reflection of the decor theme. As it is called Country Inn and Suites, an effort is made to have a country feel to the rooms. I suspect it can be difficult to balance new and modern with a country motif. That said, the furnishings in our suite were in very good condition. The 2 TVs were new flat screen ones. We were pleased to find a small fridge plus a microwave oven in the suite.

While we will always prefer the Courtyard and accumulating more Marriott Rewards points, we would book the Country Inn and Suites again if the Courtyard is booked solid.
