“Beautifully preserved historic home”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

Being a Lancaster native, I've always heard about the Hans Herr House but don't recall a field trip or visit as a child. On a return trip home, we decided to finally visit and so glad we did! Found out Hans Herr is a distant relative (8th great-grandfather) - who knew?!? This made the visit more interesting, but truthfully, we would have enjoyed it anyway. Don't miss this special treat into the earliest settlement in Lancaster county.

“Tour one of the oldest homes in the U.S.”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

A 2-1/2 story stone home, plus a celler, built in the German style in the 1500s by one of the first settler families in southeastern Pennsylvania. Somewhat reconstructed, but mostly original, and in very good condition. The Herrs were part of the first Mennonite group to travel west from Germantown to clear and farm in the (now) Lancaster area. Excellent docent who is a Herr descendent. Well worth the trip off the beaten path.

“More History”
Reviewed July 20, 2012

For older travellers looking for some Lancaster County history this is a good place to start. Related to the Potato Chip Herr Family they were among the first to settle here and this gives you a glimpse into early life.

“Worthwhile!”

Excellent! Especially when you have the people dressed up and filling traditional roles and acting out traditional crafts!
