“Nice Place, but not the best for business travelers”
Reviewed December 9, 2013

It's a nice property with a friendly staff. A bonus is the free shuttle to local restaurants and such. The limitations for business travelers are, limited electrical outlets at the desk and bedside tables. You must crawl under the desk to plug in your laptop and forget about charging your phone at the same time, there is only one free outlet under the desk. The king bedrooms seem small in area, roughly 320 sqft and that includes the bathroom. There is also the problem of not being able to see the TV while working at the desk (there is a large wardrobe in the way and the TV is bolted to the cabinet and cannot be moved forward). I am a platinum member and stay at many IHG properties so I asked at the desk if there were other rooms set up differently where I could see the TV from the desk, they were sorry but they said all the rooms are set up this way. Oh, to other platinum members, the goody bag has a bottle of water a small 1/2 oz bag of rolled gold pretzels and two mints, enjoy. The last limitation is that because of the location, you cannot walk to any convenience stores or restaurants, but as I said they do have a shuttle. One final observation, the bed is very squeaky and I'm not sure why, but seems comfortable enough.

After living in this area my whole life, I was actually stumped when it came to making reservations for my family who was coming in from out of state. My husband and I have stayed at different Holiday Inn Express's in other states, so after looking the one up in this area, I made reservations. I am soooo happy I did. I picked the package with breakfast included, and the feedback was great !! The staff when they arrived were so pleasant.... the entire hotel was super clean and very well staffed. They loved their room, including the bed. Different choices were available daily at breakfast, which they could even take back to their room if they wanted. I have to mention, they also found the pool.... which in their words, was "AWESOME" Thank you so much to everyone !!!! I can guarantee this would be my future choice if need be. Thank you again to everyone!!!

Room Tip: my family stayed on the 5th floor, which they told us, had a great view!!

This was our second overnight to Wilkes-Barre in as many weeks; and, we once again chose the Holiday Inn Express on Route 315. It is a slightly above-average hotel in this bustling city. Set just off one of the main thoroughfares, is convenient to dozens of stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. High points would be: the attentive and friendly service from the staff; the convenient location; and the complimentary breakfast. Low points would be: the room size to furniture ratio; and the late night comings and goings of guests.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and efficiently took care of our needs. No complaints at all - whether dealing with the front desk, breakfast service, or housekeeping. Wilkes-Barre is a great city that is reinventing itself. It is a college town. It is has great outdoor activities. It has a tremendous amount of shopping and dining options. The Holiday Inn Express is right in the middle of anything you would want to do while staying in Wilkes-Barre. The included buffet-style breakfast features: scrambled eggs; sausage patties; muffins; yogurt; fresh fruit; bagels; cinnamon sweet rolls (unbelievably good); cereal; pancakes; and more. The food was plentiful, fresh, and well received by me, my wife and our two sons.

My strongest complaint would be that smaller size rooms (it is an Express operation) are filled with standard hotel size furniture, which leaves little space in which to navigate. A little smaller desk, chair, armoir, and tv console, would have done wonders to open up the room. For the amount of time we were in the room, it is no big deal - just a little tight. There is a fair amount of activity in the hotel during the late night and early morning (probably due to the Mohegan Sun Casino just down the road). Future stays will request a room away from the elevator to mitigate other guests coming and going at odd hours.

Dollar for dollar, the value for us is in the clean rooms in a convenient location and an included breakfast. With a son just starting in college in Wilkes-Barre, I expect that we will be staying here on a regular basis.

Almost forgot - built high on the hillside, the views (particularly this past Fall) were beautiful.

Room Tip: Due to late night activity, opt for a room away from the elevators.

Stayed 1 night here for a college visit, the hotel itself was clean and the staff were very helpful with directions on where we wanted to go, and very friendly but the noise from the hallway kept you up all night long. There were multiple families staying in the rooms across from us and they were in and out at least a hundred times , each time louder than before. The doors slamming and the noise sounded like they were right there in our room, people have no respect for other people trying to sleep, called down to complain the noise would cease for a couple minutes then start up again. They need to do something to soundproof their rooms! Nice breakfast though.

Nothing to right home about. Hard to find, maybe the roads have recently changed. In need of renovations. Main hall carpets are worn. The room was clean but nothing exceptional.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel recently on our drive across PA from Ohio on our way to Boston, MA. I made the reservation prior to our trip and found this Holiday Inn Express to be close to the highway making it easy to access. The price was right. I was hopeful that it would be a pleasant one night stay when we were offered complimentary shuttle service within a 2 mile radius of the hotel. We had been on the road a while and were tired so the offer of a ride was appreciated. However the bed was the worst. Very hard and with a plastic type mattress pad that made me hot and sweaty during the night even without heat on in the room. I would have gotten up and taken it off but I am leery of removing mattress pads in hotel rooms. It was not a good night of sleep for me at all. The breakfast is so so but is complimentary. The staff at the hotel were very nice.

Room Tip: check your mattress pad if you don't like plastic on your bed.

By far the worst hotel we have stayed in in years. Non-stop slamming of doors and yelling out in the hallways from 11pm-3am. Not just a few but every 10 minutes someone was slamming a door shut. After calling the front desk at 1am then having go to downstairs again at 2:30am the noise did not stop.
We were in town from DC for a concert and decided to stay the night - we would have been better off making the 4 hour drive back after the show was over.
