“Rangers Overzealous”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2014

Rangers harassed us about our dog although we complied with rules. Showed up at our site questioning us about the whereabouts of our dog (we were in a pet friendly site) because my husband called to ask about the rules for taking our dog off the site. Meanwhile the fog of "funny" tobacco at night was overwhelming. Not great for young children.

“Winter orientering fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2014

This park offers a great opportunity to try your hand at orienteering/land navigation. My group did in the snow so it made it a bit more challenging, but we had a blast. Looks like they also have "ultimate frisbee"/frisbee golf set up as well, and would be even more fun in warmer weather.

“Smelling the Campfire”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2014

My wife had told me how unique Hickory Run State Park is so we booked our friends book two camping sites and had a great time. We had to hike the entire Boulder Field. Very interesting and fun, but watch your step? The camp sites were well-maintained. A little rain did not dampen our outing because we were well-prepared with rain gear and canopies. We cooked our meals on a campfire. After a great breakfast cooked by me, we hiked some trails and had a great time. The scenery is fantastic, and the choices were many. We did an easy one and two difficult ones. Yes, I would go back. Thank you Pennsylvania for having many great parks like this one.

“Great Attaction Near White Haven and Jim Thorpe, Pa”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

While the Pocono's have many attractions, one should not over look the state park near White Haven, PA. This park is known to locals and attracts many campers. But visiting the area you might not realize what a gem this park really is to many. Many people who do visit the park do so because of the geological formation called "Boulder Field Natural Area" which is pretty amazing. But we also found three hiking trials we enjoyed very much. The first one is right by The Visitor Center called the Shades of Death Trail...now we have no idea why it is called this ominious name, but it was a lovely trail along a stream to a lovely man-made waterfall. The second trail we hiked, called Fire line trail was to the bluff over looking the Lehigh River, which was beautiful, especially with the leaves turning. The last trail, we happened upon from fellow hikers was to Hawks Falls. It too was lovely and an enjoyable hike. We also saw plenty of deer and the park backs up to another state park: Lehigh Gorge.
