“Good food, warm fire, good wine”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

I travelled back to Reading during the holidays 2013. I think I visited WRT at least 5 times in 2 weeks ! I grew up in Reading and used to frequent this place many years ago. It's a cozy neighborhood bar / restaurant. There is a dining room in the back, but we always managed to set at one of the tables in front of the fireplace in the bar area.

Their soups are great ! Monday nights were buy one pound of mussels get one pound free. The mussels were quite good. There is a good beer list. The wine list is not long but the choices are quite good.

The staff are quite friendly and accomodating. On several nights we had a large group of 8 or so in the bar area at the tables.

I love this place !!

“Great Food, Good Beer Selection”
Reviewed December 22, 2013

I have eaten here twice in the last two weeks and the food was consistently tasty both times. The only complaint I have food-wise is maybe spruce up the dessert selection. The beer list is quite long and there is a great special on Sundays where you get a free beer if you order a flatbread pizza. The kitchen service was a little slow on the last visit but that will be probably be worked out. I really love the "Tudor" look to the inside of the restaurant and the fireplace by the bar is cozy and warm.

“wish they were open for lunch more often”

Good food, creative offerings. However they are only open for lunch a few days a week. Good soup/sandwich specials with generous portions.

“Cold food”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

This use to be such a charming restaurant with wonderful food on the menu. My husband & I went there last night after an absence of a few years. We ordered the hot turkey sandwiches and the mashed potatoes were cold; plus some of the turkey looked spoiled. The side of cranberry sauce was as small as a teaspoon. We were so disappointed. It's certainly not the West Tavern we were used to.

“The New WRT”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

The West Reading Tavern has been a local favorite since it opened in the mid 1970's. In recent years, the management and ownership have passed to the next generation. On the upside, the draught beer selections have dramatically expanded - WRT now features an impressive, rotating selection of craft brews that's one of the very best in the county.

On the downside, the menu has been entirely revamped amid the excessive turnover of kitchen personnel and chef changes. The menu no longer features many of the entrees that made the Tavern great. Entree prices are at an all time high, and food quality is at an all time low. The kitchen is disorganized and makes far too many mistakes to suit me. My wife and I have given up on dining there, though still stop in for beverages from time-to-time.

The chef who put the Tavern on the map is now at Galen Hall. If you remember the excellent food of yore, head there, instead for dinner, and stop by for a beverage.
