An inescapable feature of the American travel landscape is the presence of chain motels along major highways. The plan is for these to be highly visible along these highways, not necessarily to be close to anything that you would want visit. Fortunately, they also provide a great value in terms of amenities provided for the price charged. This lodging was almost quintessential in both these regards. You'll need a car to even get to this place, so the fact that you also need one to get from this place to anywhere else is almost axiomatic.

West Chester is both a college town and a nice place to visit in its own right. However, the location of this place makes access to either of these features of West Chester no more easy than staying outside of town. The only things nearby are offices; you can't even walk to a chain restaurant. Stay here, or stay elsewhere -- you'll still have to drive to get to anywhere in West Chester.

Stayed here for two nights during a threat of nasty weather (long story), where temperatures dropped to below 10F (-12C) each day. Because of these temps, warmth within the room was important during our stay, and Room 203 had its problems.
Right as we walked in, we were surprised to see only sheets on the bed -- no blankets, let alone no comforter, were anywhere in the room! We were able to get the former from the front desk, but most lodgings we've stayed at give at least some blanket on a bed, and a thick blanket within the room.
Fortunately, the heater in this room quite well -- within minutes the room went from uncomfortably cold to pleasantly warm. Unfortunately, soon after the room went to uncomfortably hot. Adjusting the setting on this older model heater/AC to just the right temperature was not easy.
Worse, the heater/AC would blow air even when it wasn't heating the air coming out of it. Thus, we would alternate between hot air coming into our room with cold air coming into our room. Even the "optimal" temperature setting resulted in moments of too cold and too hot every few minutes. No matter whether we were at the desk or under the covers, finding a comfortable setting was difficult.
And this unit was NOT quiet when it blew air, making sleep difficult. We couldn't just turn off the heater when we went to bed, because the room would quickly become too cold even with the blanket given to us. This is a situation where a thick comforter would have made for a more pleasant night.
If the temps are pleasant when you are in town, the above probably won't matter -- but, on a cold time like during our stay, it was a problem.

Our room featured full bath, phone, radio alarm, hair dryer, and TV with 40 channels. We could not locate an iron or board in our room. There was but one chair, and it was clearly for use at the small desk; not for relaxing. Free motel amenities include parking, wi-fi, morning newspaper, workout room, PC in the lobby, and deluxe continental breakfast buffet (waffles were nice). All phone calls to anywhere in the USA are free, a nice perk for this chain. Temperature problems aside, the room was quiet, clean, and well-maintained. Staff was professional and polite. The entire facility is smoke-free, and no pets are allowed.

If you just need a place to hang your hat while you drive around the area during the day, this place is as good as any other; and the price might well result in a real bargain.

Should have known not to stay at this property. Upon arrival must have been 20 people cleaning up and drying out 3 floors of the east side of the hotel from a burst frozen water pipe from the 3rd floor that had flooded the property. Had stayed at this property before with O.K. results. Water was pretty much everywhere with vacuums and blowers running on all floors. Checked in and the room remote for the tv didn't, it didn't work either work, went back a 3rd time to the front desk and got another one and it didn't work. The assistant manager brought up 10 or 12 remotes to try and none worked, so she put me in another room across the hall. Tv didn't work in that room either, so she put me in a 3rd room where everything worked. About an hour later the fire alarm goes off we have to evacuate the hotel for an electrical fire in the electrical room. We wait for the fire department to clear the hotel for 2 hours and then we are allowed in to the conference room to wait another additional 2 hours for an electrican to show up to turn the power back on, he finally comes and after another hour we are told that we can not stay in the property because the power will not recover from the fire. Everyone must be escorted to their room to get their belongings and asked to move to a Wyndom Garden Inn hotel about 20 minutes away to stay. The wyndom rooms are stone cold but the Microtel comps the rooms for me. The managers did everything possible to help elevate the problems but just could not get ahead of all the issues at the property. Management should be commended but I don't think I will stay at this property again, as I have in the past.

Room Tip: this will not be a bad hotel once they get all their problems fixed with maintenance

Facility was updated. Hallway carpets need to be replaced, but no one is sleeping on them so it's not a big deal. Room was as described, plenty of space in a small space, actually. Room was clean and stocked (toilet paper, tissues, soap, towels etc). Sheets were clean, pillows were comfy and so was the bed. I got a chuckle out of the fact that the comforter on the bed was from a Holiday Inn Express, but hey, it is a budget hotel after all. WiFi was strong and fast. Breakfast was more than the usual toast and cereal variety. They have make-it-yourself waffles. Drawback was the lack of good temperature control. It was either broiling or freezing. You get what you pay for, but this stay was a pleasant surprise.
