More casual than its older associate, The Dilworthtown Inn, this is ideal for any occasion.

There are a series of smaller rooms, a bit like the Inn. Service is attentive, not intrusive. The front of house staff is affable and aware.

Without telling each other, we all decided on scallops. We were all delighted. Sides and salads and bread and coffee were all good. The wine selection, especially the "by the glass" offerings, was not over-priced, and we all enjoyed our choices.

Make a reservation. Locals know a good thing.

The food is impeccable, the atmosphere fun, neighborhoody, and the drinks are worth the price. My husband's favorite dish is the Charcuterie platter (for 2, but he eats is ALL) and good bottle of Spanish wine. I'm a fan of their infused vodka cocktails, and if you're lucky, they'll have a dish that night served on their homebaked Kale chips. They are soooooooo tasty and perfectly baked they melt in your mouth!

We eat out frequently and Blue Pear is on the top of our list of bistro and bistro type restaurants. The bar area is "energetic" as is the main dining room on the first floor. For a quiet or romantic dinner request a table on the second floor when making your reservation. The menu changes with the seasons but there are several offerings that are constant (and constantly good). All the meals are well prepared and presented with excellent flavor and seasoning. The plate sizes are more than adequate. One small plate and one medium plate are enough for us. After their small plates, and entree size plate would be too much. The pricing represents a good value compared with other restaurants in the area.

Blue Pear Bistro does an admirable job of combining great food in a convivial atmosphere. The restaurant is housed in a charming, old general store in a historic corner of the Brandywine Valley.

The menu has a great selection of small and medium plates. Don’t be fooled. The medium plates are full-sized dinners. But the broad selection of small plates allows diners to choose a selection of appetizer-type options in order to try several items.

Host/owner Jim does a tremendous job making everyone feel at home and comfortable.

I’m so happy that we stumbled across this excellent restaurant.
