I found Bear Mountain online several years ago and we have not gone anywhere else since finding this wonderful lodge. The lodge is welcoming and comfortable. The staff is warm, caring and friendly. We will continue staying at Bear Mountain for as long as we are able to do so. The best part of our stay at Bear Mountain is just being able to relax. Each year we want to travel to Corning for the glass factory, or ride horseback, but we end up staying put and enjoying not having to do anything! It's perfect!

My husband and I stayed here in early July of 2013 as part of a road trip through the Adirondacks in PA and NY. We had never stayed at a lodge or bed and breakfast before and definitely wanted to avoid the antiques and Victorian frilliness that so often characterizes a B&B.
While not what we would consider a "lodge", the Bear Mountain Lodge was an overwhelmingly positive experience and one we would heartily recommend to others. The surround region is sharply hilly and heavily wooded, with farmland in the valleys and lots of state park land to preserve the wildness. The Bear Mountain Lodge looks like a lovely suburban home tucked on to a steep and heavily wooded lot reached by a winding drive off a primary road. It has great lines, an modern post and beam style architecture and delightful wooden bear sculptures clambering around the eaves and decks. Grounds were attractively landscaped and very well maintained, as was the property. We arrived in late afternoon and made our way up to the second floor where we entered a side door to the kitchen. The open plan kitchen held a gift package for us with our names written on an attached envelope that held our room key and details about the place, along with discount coupons for local establishments. The kitchen opened to a lovely, lodge-like sitting room with easy chairs, upright piano, dining table and cathedral ceiling with open wood beams. Very comfortable decor, lots of quaint bear and moose figures, log interior walls, large expanses of glass, all clean, well-kept and everything smelled clean. Our room was up the stairs to a second floor that included a loft balcony overlooking the sitting room and seemed like bedrooms. Our room was a delightful surprise. Extremely clean, very new appointments, a fabulous large private bath with large whirlpool tub, a cozy balcony overlooking the landscaped lawn area. The room included a small dorm room refrigerator and Keurig coffeemaker with plenty of supplies, including cake and muffins along with juice and pop in the fridge.
Gas fireplace with a remote control and high tech ductless mini-split air conditioner kept the room very comfortable, very quietly.
We slept great, extremely quiet, even with 2 other couples staying in other suites. The housekeeper we met the next day showed us another access door that would spare my husband climbing up and down so many stairs and was delightful to speak with.
We had a marvelous stay here and were sorry to go. It was truly like staying in the woodland home of friends with great taste and appreciation for the outdoors, but who managed to stay out of your way and give you all the space you needed to enjoy time with your partner.
Every other lodge/inn we stay in after this one will be measured against Bear Mountain as the best possible experience that you could hope to discover.
Only problem was the long stairs from the driveway to the main floor in addition to the next set of stairs leading up to our room. Fine for me, but a real difficulty for my mobility impaired husband. Housekeeper showed us a steep drive behind the house where I could pull up the car and cut 12 stairs out of my husband's walk.

Room Tip: Suites on main floor offer bigger beds and more room. Whitetail room has only a queen bed.

Dear Monica T,

The time you took to write this thorough review is very kind. Thank you so much. It seems you included every detail, which I am sure will be invaluable to other people considering staying with us in the future. Should you and your husband choose to visit again, you may want to consider our Bear Meadows property. There are 3 or 4 stair steps to enter the property, but then everything is ground level. I am sorry accessibility was a challenge and so glad Sherri was able to eliminate a few of the steps for you.

Please come visit again and thank you so very much for this descriptive review!

Best,
Lisa Meade on behalf of Jim, Sherri and Amanda

We decided to spend our anniversary hiking in the Grand Canyon of Wellsboro, Pa. We found the Bear Mountain Lodge on line. I give it a 5 star rating for many reasons. When we walked through the front door there was a welcoming bag for us with our first names on it. The living area was quaint and cozy. Our room was spotless. It had all these little "touches" including a stuffed animal on the bed that made us feel like we weren't guests but part of a family. It sat up on this little hill surrounded by woods which made it private. There was muffins, fruit, variety of coffee and teas, juice, water in our room as well as in the downstairs kitchen. We met one of the gals that ran it and she was very sweet. I would highly recommend staying here if you like a rustic, cozy, quiet getaway in the mountains.

We had a wonderful time staying at Bear Mountain. The lodge is bright, airy, a great combination of luxury and country. And the most beautiful view. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath suite. Perfect for our 4 person family. We went on a wonderful horse ride at Tioga horses, and then a hike in the Grand Canyon. Bear Mountain was a great home base. Thank you Bear Mountain for an excellent stay!

Dear MelShust,

Thanks for your review of the Mountain Breezes Suite at the Bear Meadows property! We just opened the suite this summer and have been surprised by how many families have already enjoyed it. It is a nice change of pace around our bed and breakfasts to see some children!

Please feel welcome to visit us anytime! So glad you enjoyed activities in the area. There really are a lot of family-friendly options.

We stayed at Bear Mountain Lodge's in-town house and were very pleasantly surprised by how delightful it was. The B&B consists of two guest rooms in a house with a sweeping lawn in a tree lined street part of the main street of Wellsboro a charming small town. The Gaslight room we stayed in and the ensuite bathroom were tastefully furnished and the King sized bed the most comfortable of any we stayed in during our 10 day trip to Canada. We didn't bother to get breakfast at the local diner (Jim and Amanda had left vouchers in the room) as the pastry/yoghurt/fruit etc. we found in the basket in the room and the fridge made a very nice breakfast together with the pod coffee in the hall. We had heard about the Bear Mountain Lodge properties from other guests in our B&B in Niagara and are very glad we took their advice.

Dear Mahnie,

We were delighted to hear that you referred by other guests you met while on your travels! Wellsboro isn't quite Niagara, but we just love our clean and charming town and like to see people discover it! If you ever travel northward again, we would love to have you back, either at this property or one of our other ones.

Best,
Jim

Bear Mountian Lodge is one of the nicest B&B we have stayed. Sherri, the manager, was so nice and very helpful. The lodge has a bear theme but not cheesy. We stayed in the Bear Room and although it was small, it was clean and nice. Nice bathroom with a double shower. The BEST part was the hot tub on the balcony deck. We were lucky to have great weather and enjoyed our two nights without incident. The coupon for the Wellsboro Diner was a good touch since they only serve yogurts and granola or food bars. There was a basket in the room with muffins and bars too. There is a Keurig for coffee and tea in the room.THe room refrigerator was well stocked with water, juice and cheese sticks. You must go there!!!!!

Bear Mountain Lodge was a welcome retreat after spending a couple of days hiking into the PA Canyon, and cycling along the Pine Creek Rail Trail. From the comfy bed and relaxing spa bath to the thoughtful provision of snacks for our hiking, everything was extremely well catered for. I also loved the choice of coffees, and yoghurt and fruit for breakfast.
We didn't see any other guests, even though the lodge was fully booked - it was almost like we had the place to ourselves.
Would have loved to have stayed longer, and would recommend BML as a perfect couples retreat.
