“Historical sidetrip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

Great place to visit for a bit of history from the not too distant past . Driving through the area for many years and seeing the signs we finally visited during a trip to Jim Thorpe Pa . What a pleasant experience . We were surprised to learn that there are still people living in the town . Some homes are restored in part and are left as they were and in a sad state . You are free to walk the entire town or drive to the ends and get out and walk . Cemetery , church and mine owners house as well as the store , kitchen and conveyor are all still there as well . Indoor visitors center slash museum and info center are at the entrance with free parking . Small fee to enter the museum is well worth it in order to keep the attraction alive . It was a Sunday when we visited but everyone was at the fall festival in Jim Thorpe . The ride from Jim Thorpe is on a very , very winding road . Read that as a fun drive . Our visit was in October and the village was set up for Halloween .

“Mining Ghost town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2013

I live near this area and it is preserved just as it was in the early days of coal mining in PA. Our
daughter was married in the church shown in picture. The museum and walking tour are a must.
Some people still live in this 1890 mining village. They also offer special events in the Fall and
around Christmas. The Molly Maguires movie was filmed here and included many locals for extras, my uncle being one of them.
Nearby is Hickory Run State park with its Boulder Field which is also a great place to take the kids
during any season except winter as it would be too slippery and cold.

“Wonderful piece of history.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Eckley really shows the lives of the miners & families in the past. Lots of places show life of the average person in America, this is more specific and "different", and therefore very interesting. A great place to visit to learn more about our history.

“Hugely interesting!”

Having read much about mining and all its hardships, it is really helpful and tremendously interesting to see how the miners and their famiies lived and worked in by-gone days. A great place to visit! Ron & Nancy, Ontario CANADA

“Odd town you need to see”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2013

Went with family 2 kids under 11. We speant about 3 hours here waiting for the walking tour (must do). Kids in the end thought it was pretty cool. It's an odd place as it's a real town with 31 residents that live in this 1890 town. Was site for '68 molly maguires. We did the museum picnic and the tour. 'Iristen did a great job. It's about 3/4 mile walk one way on a easy street anf go in a few buildings
