This is my favorite place on the Main Line. The gardens are beautiful and the place is big enough to make it worth the drive but no so big that you feel overwhelmed. Entrance fee is also quite modest, so it is quite affordable place to take out of town guests.
This is garden that is both beautiful and whimsical. Every time I go, it is such a pleasure. It is not stuffy at all or take itself too seriously. If you go in late summer, you can find some spectacular water lilies ... Looking like they are right out of a Monet watercolor.
Kids love rolling down the large hill by the main house, following a few of the tucked away pathways or sitting on the stone sofa.
I highly recommend it, and prefer it over Longwood Gardens.

This garden estate is an artists dream for everyone, but especially those who love painting and photography. The vistas are unique, romantic and colorful. It feels like an endless walk until you realize you've basically walked in a big circle. There is so much to look at, so much to paint or shoot...and if you just feel like a lazy afternoon stroll this is the place to go. They have seating throughout the gardens and pathways. Come alone, with a friend or with your family...it will not disappoint!

Chanticleer is a beautiful spot on Philadelphia's Main Line. I highly recommend a visit here if you are from out of town or are a local just looking for something to do for the an afternoon.

We're long-time lovers of gardens, having visited them throughout Europe and the US. Chanticleer is one of the very best, offering a winding, hilly tour through perhaps eight or ten quite different environments, all of them splendidly maintained. Longwood Gardens is the standard for grand establishments and this is the standard for small ones.

Lovely grounds to walk around. Always something to see. You'll be surprised when you walk in. And this was a private home!
