We visit Catherine's about once a month. The restaurant overall has been consistent; the dishes are unique, tasteful albeit a little pricey. We prefer a slower pace of service so the comments here about slow service don't really bother us. When we dine at a restaurant like Catherine's we prefer a slower pace, want to relax and savor the food, our wine and of course the conversation and companionship.
The mushroom soup with crab meat is superb. Regardless of the weather, even during warm summer evenings, the soup is something you must try. We have had the blackened tuna and crab cake entrees, no complaints. At our last vist we tried the mixed berry pie for dessert. A great way to finish a great dinner.

Jumbo Shrimp & Paparadelle Noodles asparagus, caramelized ginger & lemon basil 24.95 - I didn't realize that would mean 3 shrimp. Was a bit surprised. Was good but thought expensive. Service was slow and I imagine would be noisy had many more people been there. Very cute outside area.

Great applewood smoked bacon for breakfast. A little noisy and slow service, but good food.

Let's start with the good stuff. The food is excellent. Several of our party tried the wild mushroom soup which is a bisque with lump crabmeat. The 3 folks that tried it raved about it. Lots of fresh French bread was brought to the table which definitely went well with the soup. I had the spinach salad with crumbled pancetta and Spanish blue cheese vinaigrette. This was quite good. Our various entrees included the filet mignon served with truffle butter with a side of mashed potatoes and asparagus. The filet was cooked just right and the asparagus was terrific, just blanched so it was still crisp. One of our group tried the sea scallops and enjoyed that. We also had the salmon filet which was very fresh and served with toasted coconut & cilantro and red chili-mango butter. This gave the dish a real buttery taste which cut the usual strong salmon flavor. Non-salmon lovers would like this recipe. The duck breast and blackened tuna entrees were delicious. A hint to diners with smaller appetites: the mushroom soup is so filling; think twice before ordering an entree on your own.
Now, the problems. First, the noise level in the restaurant is overwhelming. The tables are so crowded together in a room with low ceilings that we literally could not carry on a normal conversation. It became very disturbing as the evening went on. Secondly, there were not enough servers for the number of diners. Service was quite slow and we had to ask for the dinner menus as well as dessert menus at the end. No one seemed to pay any special attention to any one table. There was one server who only uncorked the wine you brought and filled water glasses. They definitely need to ramp up the number of staff. There is outside dining, and if the evening is pleasant that would be the place to eat just to be able to converse with your party.
Parking is quite limited though they have an arrangement with the real estate office across the street for folks to park after business hours.
So - great food, but come prepared for a long noisy evening.

Great service, hopsitable staff...good for a restaurant. BYOB so go prepared, they do have a $5 corking fee and a $4 split plate fee...my husband and I always share since we don't have large appetites and wasting food isn't in our culture (if we can help it, neither is second day food, so we don't like leftovers). The split plate was more than enough for the both of us - we ordered fish with a yummy risotto - very nicely done! We orderd their mushroom soup - which was perfectly creamy and delicious - a spinach and pancetta salad which I thought was overpriced for what it was - though still tasted good - but $10 on that pinched. The chairs are a bit uncomfortable - I understand the rustic country feel of it...but my husband (who has no rear end to speak of) kept having to stand up and relieve his aching rear. Maybe a cushion or something? We didn't sit outside that day - though it looked beautiful and inviting and had better cushions! We couldn't quite decide whether we would be hot outside or not - so decided on the inside. We had a good experience overall - but I think I can easily get just as good an excperience elsewhere for quite a bit less.
