Susquehannock Lodge and Trail Center

The Susquehannock Lodge is ideally situated adjacent to the Susquehannock State Forest. You can cross-country ski right from the lodge (or drive a short distance up the road to the Ranger station) and hook up with numerous backcountry trails. We have been making this trek to the Lodge every February (for many years) with a group of friends.

Snow was particularly bountiful this year, making for great conditions. But even in low snowfall years, it seems like this little area in Potter County almost always has snow, even when the surrounding towns do not. It must be in some sort of snow pocket!

The lodge is rustic and charming with various types of basic accommodations (from single rooms to a 3-bedroom carriage house). There is nothing frilly or fancy about the lodge (if that is what you are looking for) as it started as a place to house hunters, but it is warm, comfortable and a great value for the price. There is Wi-fi in the main lodge and in some rooms. Not all rooms have TV reception (if that is important to you.) Most people go to this lodge to enjoy the outdoors and the lack of TV is a plus in my book, as it enables you to disconnect and relax. Breakfast and dinner are included in the package. The food is good and hearty. The oatmeal at breakfast is so delicious. Also, you can also order a packed lunch for $6 to take out with you on the trail, which I find to be very convenient.

The owners and staff always make guests feel welcome and we always leave the Susquehannock Lodge feeling reinvigorated and refreshed.

What a lovely place base for outdoor activities. Just minutes from hiking, biking, and canoeing in the Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania and located along historic Route 6, this place is a real gem. There's even a trail right behind the lodge that leads to the Susquehannock Trail. It's clean and very comfortable. The food is outstanding. There's even free WiFi. Carol and Ed are wonderful hosts.

Room Tip: Some rooms have private baths and others share a bath. The best room and bath is in the addition to...

Carol and Ed provide an excellent and comfortable base for outdoor activities. We visited from Ontario on the Canadian Victoria Day weekend in May.
We had a great time. We biked in the 'Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania", our boys did some fishing, and we hiked and geocached up behind the lodge. We even saw a bear cub (from the safety of our car--no mother bear in sight). The drive down through the hills and villages of upstate New York was beautiful and Ed's prime rib on Saturday night was out of this world--in fact, all the meals were delicious. Finally, the room was clean and up-to-date. There's no cable, but for us, that was part of the charm. There are TVs and DVD players in the rooms, so the boys were able to watch movies from the DVD collection in the lodge.

15 years ago friends introduced us to the Susquehannock Lodge and we haven't missed a winter's vacation there since. And every once in a while we do a summer visit. We absolutely love the area and always stay at the Lodge. Hiking, biking, skiing, snowshoeing, geo-caching and even shopping in Wellsboro if you're so inclined. Cross country ski up the hill behind the lodge and do many trails or drive up to the ranger station and do 7 miles along the ridge, gradual downhill, back to the lodge. Downhill at Ski Denton which is just up the road. In the summer it's a hiker's paradise and biking on the Pine Creek rail trail is a must. Swim at Lyman State Park. The first week in July the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum has the Bark Peelers Convention and the old mill might be running - a scary sight!
The food at the lodge (Breakfast and dinner) is wonderful and the large fire place in the family room nicely compliments an evening movie, games or a good book. Bring you own brew or favorite wine and wish for nothing.

Room Tip: Two rooms, with deck, above the barn for isolation. Three bedroom suite about the carriage house...

We've been coming here regularly 2 or 3 times a year to hike. [---]

Carol's and Ed's (and Maddy's) hospitality can't be beat. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The food is plentiful and delicious. Hiking trails start at the door...

P.S. Free WiFi for those of us who can't live without the 'Net.

Four of us, one couple and two singles, stayed here four nights. We had dinners and breakfast, and were given lunches for the trail. All four dinners were different, and we always had choices for breakfasts. The food was plentiful, and quite delicious. We got help in planning our hikes from Ed, and enjoyed the company of both hosts. We would recommend this to every traveler.
