Good for: Bar scene
Dining options: Late Night
Description: Forget 'casual dining.' That's an industry term so out of touch with how consumers eat and drink today. For premium quality and style; fare that's at times familiar and other times adventurous and a laid-back modern setting, Houlihan's is a true original.

My sister, her friend, and I went here before a movie viewing. The service was about average and the appetizers were good. We had their great tasting long island ice teas. They are very delicious and are on special from time to time. It was a very relaxing evening and had a great time.

My family and I had dinner at Houlihans located in Pgh Mills mall Tarentum. We all had visited Houlihans at other locations and liked the food and dining atmosphere. However, this place was the worst! The plates for the appetizers were dirty, the side salad consisted of three grape tomatoes and shredded lettuce. Four people ordered ribs which were under cooked and flavorless ,the green beans were so tough you couldn't cut them with a knife, The bar is located in the center of the restaurant and being Saturday evening was very busy. Two guys at the bar kept getting louder, using profane and graphic language. The manager would walk right passed them to help serve the orders. The manager was aware there were small children present and still chose to ignore the situation. The drunks finally got so terrible that a man sitting next to the bar confronted them and asked them to be quiet. A very brave and gallant thing. How was he rewarded for asking for consideration for women and children present? The manager hovered around this guy's table watching his every move and said nothing to the drinkers. I guess the money is in the booze and not the food. This Houlihans makes you feel at home were you can drink to excess swear and be inconsiderate.

Up until about a year ago Houlihans was a great place to eat; it is what you'd expect for a trendy place in the mall: nothing amazing, but pretty decent. I have given this place 3 tries in the past few months because I wanted each flop to be just that, a random flop. After 3 bad experiences I'm added them to my DNR (Do not return) list. They had raised all of their prices and the quality has gone downhill.

1. Grilled cheese as an entrée for 10$: Of course I'm expecting it to be on really good bread with good cheese, not just crappy slices from a pack and white bread. Wrong; it was about as good as the grilled chees the cafeteria at Shadyside Hospital where I work would make it, soggy, and bland, not 10$ good.
2. Salmon dinner for 15$: obvious this is frozen salmon, it has no seasoning, small portion, and stiff..you aren't supposed to be able to pick up a piece of salmon like its pizza and it not fall apart!
3. Salads; they taste ok but aren't 13-15$ good. They are about worth 8$.

These are just some examples...I have no problem paying a lot for food if its worth it, but this place just isn't worth it. It used to be worth its old prices, but this place is like eating Chilis or Applebees on a bad day, but they charge about 1.5x the amount of restaurants like those and its not as good. They present themselves as if they are a trendy, hip, casual elegant restaurant, but they no longer have the backbone to carry that reputation.

The location at Robinson isn't good either. Average to blah food for waaaay too much money.
