Review of Ed's Buggy Rides

Ed's Buggy Rides
Reviewed August 21, 2013

My wife, daughter and I enjoyed a lovely buggy ride through the backroads of Lancaster county. The driver was a very knowledgable man ( I am pretty confident he was the real deal, Amish) . The only downside was that a family of 7 joined us which made for cramped conditions. The ride was an excellent value.

Ed's is right across the street from Sight and Sound stage, so if you are seeing a show there, this is a good add-on. We opted for the longer buggy ride which stops at an Amish farmhouse. They have a little shop and offer some Amish treats as well. Try the homemade root beer, it's awesome. Pretty reasonable price and informative (non-Amish) tour guide.

We had minimal time in Lancaster and wanted the most engaging and natural way to learn about this Amish and Mennonite Community. We had a 4 year old girl and two teen boys with us as well as another adult relative. We shared our ride with two adults. Our driver was Sam. A humble retired Mennonite farmer. He brought us to an authentic working Amish farm. All backtoads. It was not a recreated tourist trap with actors. We were able to interact with several Amish family members and enjoyed their store and yummy treats very much (hubby really loved the whopie pies and homemade rootbeer). The tour was about an hour. And my boys commented that although they started out thinking this would be boring they really enjoyed it. Our questions were answered kindly and with humorous anectodotal stories. The only thing I would caution anyone about is the lack of a restroom for before or after the ride. It was a stressful event getting my four year old to the potty at the restaurant across the street at the end of the tour...and after lemonade... it was 67 dollars for 2 adults 2 teens and one four year old. We did tip the driver.

This was wonderful! The buggy driver had been Mennonite and her husband had been Amish, so she knew a lot about the customs of those folks. We were taking on a buggy ride to a working farm, where the Amish family grew corn, tobacco, and alfalfa. We visited their shop and got some of their homemade root beer. What a grand experience!

Great place- like going to a friend's to be shown around. Our buggy driver was a neighborhood girl with Amish friends who answered all our curious and silly questions. Not touristy. Nice half hour buggy ride and 2 goats and a chicken for the kids to feed at the end- what more do you need?
