“Not a Bad Choice, Great Restaurant”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

First time we have stayed here, even though we have been visiting Lancaster County for over 35 years. Our room was booked by a family member for a family weekend. Check-in was quick, staff member very pleasant. Be prepared to do some walking though. Our room was probably at the farthest end of the property, on the second floor. There is no elevator. The room was large enough with 2 queen beds, desk and rocking chair. Liked the fact we had a sink outside the bathroom as well inside. We also had a balcony, but it was facing the back of some homes and there was a dumpster in the lot. Which means early morning noise when it's time to empty it. The rockers on the balcony were pretty dilapidated, one of them you couldn't even sit on, it was that broken. The bed was comfy, and we didn't experience any outside noise during the night. You will have a small hike for breakfast so be prepared if there is inclement weather. The breakfast wasn't bad, eggs, home fries, ham, then sausage gravy and biscuits the next day. Our favorite was the Fireside Tavern. We enjoyed dinner the one night, then came back for a nightcap the next evening. They seem to have a very lively bar crowd. The wings are probably the best we've ever had. In summary, it's not a bad place to stay if you need a good nights sleep. But the place could really use some sprucing up. Our room was clean, but by no means inviting looking. The paint job in the bathroom was pretty bad, and the color not the best. There was nothing in the room that was remotely attractive looking. Its too bad that there is no historical look or feel to what was once a high end historical property.

Room Tip: Our rooms were 224 and 225. Very quiet, but a walk to the restaurant and breakfast room. Not good...

Our rooms are clean and comfortable and are a great value for the ammenties offered. We are on 16 acres of pristeen countryside surrounded by Amish farmland. We stayed at the Clarion hotel 22nd and 23rd March. The room was comfortable and clean. We found the manager Mr Sherman Hall and assistant Freddy to be most obliging.
Location is accessible to the town attractions.

I bid for a 3 star hotel in Lancaster PA from priceline.com. I ended up with this motel. It is not a hotel at all. It is a motel. It is clean. The staff are friendly. But if you want to stay in this motel, please call the motel directly. They will give you a much better price than bid from priceline.com. I will never bid from priceline.com any more.

Room Tip: Call motel directly and you will get a better price.

We got the type of room we booked this time. The Inn has the best views in the area, and the location is wonderful. It has such great potential, but it's just the shell of what it used to be.
When we opened the door to the first room they assigned us, we found it occupied. The desk clerk gave us directions for breakfast to a building that doesn't have breakfast.
It's rustic, but it has lost it's romance, and that makes it close to "shanty".
This time of year, the Lancaster area can get bad weather, so, on the positive side,we would not have lost our deposit if we had to cancel. Thanks Clarion.
The asst. manager told me they are discussing plans to put more money back into the place, and hopefully, that will put it back to it's former "fun" days.

My wife and I along with our pet spent a wonderful weekend here. Located in the heart ok the Amish Country, every attraction, eatery, shopping malls and roadway is less than a 15-minute ride away. Staff is exceptional. Rooms are clean, modern and most of all quiet. I will always make this my choice when in Penna Dutch Country.

Room Tip: Bottom floors are easily accessible and near your car for easy loading and unloading.

If you are looking to stay in Amish farmland area also during the hush of the winter off-season, we highly recommend the quiet, peaceful Historic Clarion Inn in Strasburg PA. The amazing views are just as beautiful in the winter.
The ability to park near the exterior-door old-fashioned room buildings and unload gear from a long trip is helpful as some buildings have room doors opening to the outside...others have small hallways or are upstairs. So ask for a main floor building with door opening to outside if you have children or pets (YES, they are both very welcome here and pet fee is reasonable) who need to get outdoors in all sorts of weather. These ground-level rooms are also good for the elderly (there are ramps/railings at some walkways to outside buildings).
We stay here frequently and really appreciate getting the same two rooms every time, and the peaceful sleep. The only sound you hear is the old train whistle in the distance and Amish buggies going past. The staff is always helpful and friendly.. There is coffee always in the quaint lobby of the old historic main building. The free hot breakfast is good as well as yogurt and fruit or cereal (room can be crowed in summer).
The large tv and Clarion Inn wifi internet work very well. We always bring a portable dvd player and outside toys for the large grounds. There is room to ride bicycles here.
If you do not want to eat only at the very nice attached Fireside upscale restaurant: The Pizza/Italian restaurant in the next-door small complex is outstanding. Great to take food back to room to warm in microwave; their various pastas w/ meat sauce/salad are excellent. On the bucolic grounds of the hotel, there are picnic tables and gazebos to eat in outdoors as well.
We also appreciate using the 24 hr. Strasburg laundromat at the corner and the pharmacy next-door. This is just off the lovely historic village of Strasburg, but right near these attractions: the wonderful train ride and museums, the SIght and Sound Theatre, Amish Village and antique and craft shops...The hotel complex location is off-the-beaten-path, yet a very short ride to the busy Rt. 30 Lancaster stores and commercial area if needed.

Very warm welcome ar check in. Tyler was especially helpful and friendly. He gave recommendations for close by dining as the restaurant was closed. GM Sherman was terrific. He gave me a breif history of the Inn and some places to check out while staying. The room was spacious and comfortable. I did not stay for breakfast, just a quick coffee, but the breakfast area appeared to have everything you would need to start your day. I would definately stay again
