“Not For Little Kids”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2014

5/23/14 If you are thinking about taking the under 6 kids skip it and go to Choo Choo Barn. By the way under 6 is free if you decide to go and take them along. This was a trip for my grandchildren who are 2 and 4. If you are older and can remember the Lionel and American Flyers of past years then this is a good 30 minute place for you. The interactive display buttons are not labeled what they turn on and many are broken. The maintenance I was told is done be volunteers and the people working there can't do anything about it.. If you are going to charge for admission then things should be in working order. There is also a video which was not working. I was told before entering that there were a number of upgrades since I was there last but didn't notice any. The building is beautiful and there is sitting for those who like to sit occasionally. There is one display that takes up one large case which is empty at this time. Seniors pay $6 and adults pay $7. Choo Choo Barn is $20 for the year for us local adults

“Go only if you love trians”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2014

The museum had walls and walls of toy trains. In the main room were 3 large, interactive train layouts. You could push buttons and make the trains go, make lights blink and various other activities. I was finished looking at everything in about 30 minutes. If you love toy trains, this is the place to go and you could probably stay for hours. There are several other train museums/activities nearby which is why this area is nicknamed “Train Town USA”.

“Great display and history of toy trains; keeps getting better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 22, 2013

Interesting for all ages. This includes a large collection of antique trains and a very interesting history of toy train development and trends over time (pink trains to get girls more interested? well intended but ill conceived idea!). I liked some of the related displays of the great science kits that were trendy at one point like the atomic energy lab for kids with real radioactive materials (I had one of these in 6th grade). Well designed displays, with lots of interactive buttons for visitors to be able to activate features on the different tracks and displays from train horns to flying aircraft and runway lights to signal beacons, as well as starting up the trains on various tracks. Some very remarkable and unique set ups like a Marklin train on a giant mechano set ferris wheel (would be cool to see this in action, with an interactive button to start it, of course, but maybe it is too fragile). There were more train tables in development when we visited; it is already a great collection but there will be even more to see on the next visit. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for kids. Well worth a visit if you are in Lancaster and want to do any train activities (e.g., while waiting for Dutch Wonderland to open).

“All about toy trains”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013

If you wanted to know all about toy trains, this is the place. Being partial to this museum as a member of 50 years, we visit every time we are in the area. Always new additions to the collection. Very informative-even a library inside regarding any kind of train you wish to look up. A walk-up to the entrance is lined with bricks who donated, for the restoration of the interior and exterior. Located on the same road as the Red Caboose motel. Getting ready to celebrate their upcoming anniversary and remodeling. Great price-very enjoyable.
