THe Inn has been updated and sits at the edge of campus, so it is convenient but also quiet. Very near the oldest residence halls, West Halls--beautiful red brick, feels like colonial times.
Students play key roles. Penn State has a program for hospitality majors the equal of any.
Take a trip down memory lane later by stopping by the quintessential college bar, The All American Rathskeller, plus have a great home style breakfast at the Corner Room in the Hotel State College.

The University has much for visitors to enjoy. The NIttany Lion Inn is THE place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back avoid some road noise, but none are distracting.

Without a doubt a great hotel...staffed for the most part with Penn State alumni...on campus, a first class location for all the amenities that Penn State University and the town of State College has to offer...Concerts at the Bryce Jordan Center year round...Agricultural Center that is world class..the downtown area is a must to see...quaint restaurants and shops, a truly college atmosphere environment...creamery and sticky bun bakery are worth the trip. Whiskers lounge within the hotel is a great watering hole...with food of excellence from the main dining room..do not miss the Friday night buffet at the hotel

Room Tip: one can choose from rooms at the older part of the inn with antique lobbies..or the newer part that...

I recently stayed here while attending a conference. The Inn is very classic but not as updated as I had hoped. The lounge and restaurant were very nice and food was good. The room however was dated and a bit shabby. Wallpaper stained and peeling, doors and moldings dusty, dirty and overall drab. The common areas are nice and comfortable. Location is great for visiting the campus and not having to worry about parking.

There's a saying, when you want good medical care, go to a medical school. If you want good hospitality, go to the Nittany Lion Inn. They have a school of hospitality & hotel management. I enjoyed my overnight stay there. Room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The lounge and restaurant were great. Hope to return soon!

My wife and I stayed on the Penn State campus for a few days and found ourselves spending a few nights at the Nittany Lion Inn.

Right off, the front desk was full of 20 to 30-something year old folks who apparently hadn't learned how to smile. They were quite short and non-engaging. This is the case for anyone we found working the front desk through our entire stay here, no matter how polite we were. This was one of the few negatives we found here as the property, although aging, was quite historic looking and the decor really brought out a colonial/victorian style era that was quite appealing.

The word "Quaint" comes to mind when walking the halls and seeing a lot of royal blue patterned wallpaper and carpeting. The restaurant here was also quite good. As far as casual food choices, they are a couple steps above your average Doubletree or Sheraton in my opinion.

The property was kept clean and the housekeeping staff was pleasant when we said our "Good Morning!" and there are fresh apples constantly stocked in the lobby for guests. The only other negatives we found were that despite the fact you are treated to a decent widescreen LCD TV in the room, there are no pay per view movies available here should you want to curl up for the evening and tune in. Last, we stayed in a total of two rooms over the course of our stay and I noticed the fan vents in both bathrooms were absolutely caked with debris. Some minor wear and tear on wallpaper and bathroom fixtures was also visible.

Overall, our stay was quite pleasant - hey, how can you go wrong staying anywhere in Pennsylvania during the fall months?! I think this Inn is due for some deep detail cleaning but generally keeps its guests happy with attractively historic wall decor and furniture and the rooms are very acceptable.

The Nittany Lion Inn is my "go-to" hotel in State College. The atmosphere is gracious, the staff are professional, and it's always spotless. This time I stayed in one of the updated rooms, which was quite nice, and very quiet. The food at the Dining Room and at Whiskers was wonderful -- the new menu is very enticing. Looking forward to my next visit!

Room Tip: Rooms facing the east courtyard are very quiet.

We spent one night at the Nittany Lion inn when we had to drop our niece to Greir school. This has to be one of the most beautifully decorated hotel's in classical colonial style. As you enter the lobby, you feel as if you've been taken back in time in the most delightful way! The rooms are also decorated in a similar style with big floral prints on everything from the carpets, curtains and bedspread to even the wallpaper in the bathroom, very old world, very charming. The rooms are well equipped, plug points where needed, coffe/tea maker, toiletries and a flat screen TV. The hotel offers free internet in the rooms and all public areas, and an extensive and very adventurous breakfast menu. The staff at the hotel is also American hospitality at its best. Every staffer we interacted with was happy to go that extra mile.

Room Tip: We had the one bedroom suit, which a king and sofa bed.
