“A gem with a unique collection”
Reviewed August 20, 2011

Nice & free museum on Penn State's Campus. Very relaxed atmosphere with a moderate unique collection of art in a contemporary setting. Interesting commentary and background information provided about the pieces in the collection, especially the changin exhibitions. Really liked the modern collection and prints held in protected drawers. Prepare to spend about an hour or so. Darling gift shop with helpful sales lady.
If you are a museum person, do plan to exhale and realx a bit during your visit to the Palmer Museum of Art.

“Small, yes, but worth the time”
Reviewed October 24, 2010

On the bright side, you won't need to allocate the time you'd need for say, The Metropolitan in NYC, I've found them to have an eclectic mix well worth the time. I've taken several out-of-town guests, some with younger children who were not bored with what the Palmer had to offer. Planning idea: I seem to recall in past years First Night (New Years Eve) celebrations the Palmer had something special our was at least open.
Don't over-look it if you'll be in town and want one more thing to see. Also, great way to get out of the cold : ) Also - I don't know if they still do, but they did used to allow cameras in most areas.

“Small but definitely worth visiting”
Reviewed May 29, 2010

For a large university, the Palmer is rather small. Penn State should allocate more funds to the Palmer. However, the Palmer is definitely worth visiting. It's free but donation is welcome. Always pleasantly surprised by their current exhibitions. Last year, the Palmer had a very impressive Steve McCurry exhibition. The museum is just down the road from the creamery so it makes the museum visit even better. Be sure to stop for a photo with the paws guarding the museum entrance.
