“Penn State Trip”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

First time staying in Country Inn and Suites.....very nice! The last time we were in town, we stayed at the Best Western which was also nice, but would say that this place is nicer, newer. It's located on College Avenue, 3-4 minutes from campus. Rooms are large, and clean. We booked a 2 queen room suite for the family. has separate area with desk, couch, chair and second tv. Would stay again.

Check in was with a very gruff front desk agent who seemed more concerned with getting rid of us than in making sure we enjoyed our stay. Next, my fiance was going to use some of the hotel's moisturizing lotion; until she found that the tube was only half-full, having been partially used by a previous guest. Then, we found that there is no way to close the curtains in the room. So, we were woken at sunrise, as light poured into our room. Finally, the free breakfast buffet is worth about what you pay for it. When I checked out, and mentioned that we didn't appreciate being awoken by sunlight on a romantic Valentine's Day getaway, the desk clerk acknowledged that the lack of closable curtains is a problem. Evidently, one they are aware of and refuse to fix. The rooms were clean and would probably be an okay place to stay on a business trip - if you're an early riser. But, for a leisure stay, I would avoid.

Room Tip: Unless you like rising with the sun, look for a better hotel.

Mr. Patterson,
We appreciate your comments as that feed back helps us train and improve our service. All of our guest rooms have black out drapes, to keep the light out and provide privacy. I do apologize for the staff not to have answered your question appropriately. At the Country Inn & Suites we do strive to provide excellent service, however, we fell short with our service. We do look forward to seeing you soon at our hotel when you visit State College

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel. Both experiences were enjoyable. The front desk staff are friendly and helpful. The hotel is well taken care of and very clean. Has all the things we needed for a weekend get-a-way.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask for an upgrade. The staff will accommodate you if one is available.

I stayed there this past weekend. I used my club carlson points. The summary is that this hotel is much nicer than the Quality Inn in town that I stayed in last year. Since I used points for that stay too, I don't recall what the $ difference is between the 2 properties. The hotel is 2 years old, and I thought everything still looked new. An interesting observation, is that even though the hotels must be franchises, the properties must be required to have identical lobbies. Since this hotel's lobby was identical to the country inn in Roselle, Il. Another trait that both country inn's had was that both had friendly staff. I've been to too many hotels next to highway exits where the front desk clerk, barely looks at you or says anything. the 2 desk clerks made eye contact and asked how I was.
My room and bathroom were very clean. It was nice to have a wall mounted digital thermostat to control the heater/AC unit mounted below the window, instead of having to trial and error setting a hot to cold dial. Another nice feature was that the room had 4 outlets built-in to the back-splash of the desk, So I didn't need to pull out my power-strip that I travel with. The room also had a cube fridge and a microwave in cabinets. There was also a room safe in the closet that looked like it could hold a laptop.
I used the whirlpool and it worked fine and the entire pool area looked very clean, without any signs of mildew. Another nice feature was that the pool/whirlpool was open to midnight. It's annoying to have a hotel's pool area close at 9 or 10 pm, as if everyone goes to bed early.
The breakfast room was huge, one of the biggest I've seen. it could easily hold 50 people. I have never seen this anywhere else. the buffet was staffed by 2 women and a busboy. They didn't hide in the back room either. the 2 women quickly replaced empty food items or stood around waiting for items to need replacing. the busboy quickly cleared tables if people "forgot" to do it themselves. that staffing level was a big plus. there's nothing more annoying than planning to have a quick breakfast, only to have it turn into a exercise in frustration by inattentive staff who do not check to see when items need replacing and then having to look for them in the backroom and possible deal with a language barrier. These 3 spoke English, I would not have had to resort to pointing at the item that needed replacing.
The buffet was spread out on a large U shaped counter, where the side counters were easily 15 ft apart, so there was much less bumping into other people getting your breakfast stuff. The typical breakfast items were there non-runny scrambled eggs, sausage, 3 or 4 cereals, a waffle maker, a mixed fruit bowl of melons and pineapple, bagels and toasts. there was also 2 different caffeinated coffee's as well as decaf.
The only ding I can give, is that the blanket was inside the bedspread. I usually pull off the bedspread and leave it on the floor, since everyone know that they probably never get cleaned and who knows what "substances" are on them. Since the blanket and spread cannot be separated, one has to pull it down and sit on the sheet to watch TV.

Room Tip: Ice and drink machines are in the center of each floor near the elevator, so ask for an end room to...

Just got back from out stay. Hotel was clean, fresh, and comfortable. Staff was extremely nice and responsive. Breakfast was good. Nice location, just far enough away from town that it isn't crowded or loud but close enough. Will stay here again next visit.

Stayed here while in town on business. Great stay. Staff was friendly and helpful. They gave great recommendations for nearby restaurants and let me check out several hours late to accommodate a cancelled flight. Room and rest of hotel very clean accommodating. Breakfast was fresh and delicious and had lots of options. Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed there for a business meeting. I didn't plan to stay but because of the weather, that changed. They were very accommodating. The room was clean, warm and spacious. The front desk staff as well as the staff that I met in the halls were very friendly. The meeting room was also good for our meeting needs.
