My family and I have been coming up to State College for 18 years. We started staying at this location when it was the Nittany Budget Inn, remodeled into a Motel 6, and now a Quality Inn. We've never had a problem here and have enjoyed staying at all three incarnations for 10+ years. Now that it is a Quality Inn there is a refridgerator, a comfy computer chair, an arm chair, and a hair dryer in the room. The bathrooms also now have the usually mini-toiletries found in other hotels. Breakfast fare was bagels, danish, eggs, sausage gravy, assorted juices/coffee/tea, and fruit. The staff at the desk were all extremely courteous and helpful (with obtaining cabs and numbers for various restaurants in the area).
The only detraction from the room would be that the paint in the bathroom was peeling - this after a supposed "remodel." But it isn't the Ritz nor the Nittany Lion Inn so if that is the worst of it for the money - who cares?!
The hotel is also only about a mile from campus/College Avenue which makes it in a prime location.
I took away a few points on "value" because I hate how all the hotels in the area raise their room rates for football weekend. Ridiculous.
stayed for one night. front desk was very helpful and pleasant. rooms were clean and large for a motel 6. renovations were beginning (were told they were changing names) but did not experience any problems (noise, smells). nice place to stay for a night or two. right next door to mario and luigis and within walking distance to many other restaurants.
The Motel 6 in State College is an excellent value. The only issue we've encountered (and we stay there often) occurs when late check-ins are loud in the hall or kids congregate to celebrate an event.
The motel is clean, the beds are comfortable, the staff is wonderful, the price is right, and there's plenty of nice grass to walk our dog.
The Motel 6 in State College is a motel with clean, quiet and spacious rooms. Every room has free wireless internet and expanded cable (including HBO). In general, the staff is nice and helpful. It will take you about 20 mins walking to get to downtown State College or the Penn State campus. By car is faster, though the road in which the motel sits is quite busy.
I just thought that the price they charge is a bit high for what it really is - a simple motel. (well, at least for a solo traveler, if you're in a group of 2 to 4 it can be a good deal if you all stay in the same room) .
The room is very spacious. Beds are small but comfy. The towels, were the worst smelling towels ever. After a shower I went to wipe my face/dry myself off and almost passed out - it smelled like dirty feet. Yuck! Other than that, everything was nice.
The front desk was helpful and lent us a hairdryer as rooms don't come with one. They also had doughnuts on Sunday morning and free coffee/tea.
