Description: Not for Saints, Not for Sinners Boisterous energy flows out as you open the door to Bill Pickle's Tap Room - people laughing and cheering, clinking glasses, and the sound of pop country music echoing throughout the bar. Since its start Pickle's has always been a lively place where a good time is just around the corner. The restaurant sports bar is named after the infamous bootlegger Bill Pickle, a notorious figure who distributed party supplies to the campus in the wee hours of the night during prohibition. Although prohibition is over, Bill Pickle's rebellion is still celebrated daily at this hot spot on Allen St. By day Pickle's is a restaurant sports bar where locals and students alike come for some good food and refreshing drinks. It's the perfect spot for a casual business lunch or a family outing - especially in the warm weather when Pickle's opens its windows allowing the breeze in. By night, the restaurant turns into an energetic bar offering a great happy hour and an even better time. Pickle's has lively entertainment every night of the week, but is most known for its Country Music Night every Tuesday, and Team Trivia and Sons of Resonance performing on Wednesdays. Located in the heart of Downtown, where it shares the corner (and a kitchen) with The Corner Room, Pickle's is a stone's throw from both the center of Penn State's campus and the hustle and bustle of Downtown State College. It's famous for its savory peanut butter wings, a recipe you can't find anywhere else in town. Additionally, Pickle's offers a wide variety of delicious food from starters, soups and salads to baskets, grinders, specialty sandwiches and burgers. Enjoy the MOS burger topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions and melted Swiss cheese! At a lively restaurant sports bar you need to have a lively staff, and Pickle's doesn't disappoint. The staff helps you celebrate the good times with constant jokes and great service, even when the bar is crowded. Mo the GM has been there since the beginning and loves to catch up with the locals, students and anyone else who stops by. Whether you're looking for a rocking night out or a breezy lunch overlooking Allen Street, Pickle's has it all.

“Arts Fest Madness”
Reviewed July 16, 2014

The bar was beyond crowded and I understand that for arts fest but it was a little displeasing to see people "holding seats" for people who took longer than 45 minutes to arrive or using chairs for art items when people who were trying to sit and eat were unable to. The food was good, burgers and nachos specifically is what we had. Their custom drinks sounded much better on paper than in a glass we actually asked for a soda to add to cut the sweetness a little. I'd probably come back when they weren't so busy.

“We had a really good experience here.”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

I came on here to talk this place up, but it appears from other comments they might not be consistent. At any rate, I enjoyed my visit there. I liked their cocktail menu and the waitress, Cassy, was very attentive and helpful. I ordered the salmon special which was one of the better meals I had while in State College for the week. Oh and the prices were really good! I probably think that because where I live is so expensive, but my meal was only $10.

“Nothing Great...Move Along”
Reviewed June 6, 2014

We came here on a Wednesday late afternoon just to check the place out. We ordered beer, a slice of pizza and Buffalo Wing Dip. YUCK. The pizza was nothing great. The chicken in the dip tasted like it was microwaved. Nothing great about it.

Service was ok--food came slow--took about 30 minutes to get one slice of pizza and a cup of buffalo chicken dip. Their microwave must've been backed up... :)

“Terrible.”
Reviewed May 6, 2014 via mobile

Bouncers were unnecessarily rude and once we got in the bar the bartender openly acknowledged that he was taking a lot time to serve me and then continued to serve others. One to two bartenders for such a high volume of customers is not okay. "Head" bartender was enjoying his night more than making sure the customers enjoy theirs.

“Good Place for Drinks”
Reviewed March 17, 2014

Went to State College for a Penn State Hockey Game at the new Pegula Ice Arena. Stopped at Bill Pickle's Tap Room for a quick beer and lunch before the game. Good place for a beer and watch sports. Service was good. Just had the tomato basil soup with grilled cheese. above average. I have tried the Corner Room next door several times and have always enjoyed it. Bill Pickle's is a great
place to stop before a Penn State Hockey game. Have a beer and enjoy.
