Description: Not for Saints, Not for Sinners Boisterous energy flows out as you open the door to Bill Pickle's Tap Room - people laughing and cheering, clinking glasses, and the sound of pop country music echoing throughout the bar. Since its start Pickle's has always been a lively place where a good time is just around the corner. The restaurant sports bar is named after the infamous bootlegger Bill Pickle, a notorious figure who distributed party supplies to the campus in the wee hours of the night during prohibition. Although prohibition is over, Bill Pickle's rebellion is still celebrated daily at this hot spot on Allen St. By day Pickle's is a restaurant sports bar where locals and students alike come for some good food and refreshing drinks. It's the perfect spot for a casual business lunch or a family outing - especially in the warm weather when Pickle's opens its windows allowing the breeze in. By night, the restaurant turns into an energetic bar offering a great happy hour and an even better time. Pickle's has lively entertainment every night of the week, but is most known for its Country Music Night every Tuesday, and Team Trivia and Sons of Resonance performing on Wednesdays. Located in the heart of Downtown, where it shares the corner (and a kitchen) with The Corner Room, Pickle's is a stone's throw from both the center of Penn State's campus and the hustle and bustle of Downtown State College. It's famous for its savory peanut butter wings, a recipe you can't find anywhere else in town. Additionally, Pickle's offers a wide variety of delicious food from starters, soups and salads to baskets, grinders, specialty sandwiches and burgers. Enjoy the MOS burger topped with sautéed mushrooms, onions and melted Swiss cheese! At a lively restaurant sports bar you need to have a lively staff, and Pickle's doesn't disappoint. The staff helps you celebrate the good times with constant jokes and great service, even when the bar is crowded. Mo the GM has been there since the beginning and loves to catch up with the locals, students and anyone else who stops by. Whether you're looking for a rocking night out or a breezy lunch overlooking Allen Street, Pickle's has it all.

“Great place for a drink or two”
Reviewed April 24, 2013

Fun place with lots of TV's - if it's warm enough they will open the windows (ie garage doors) and you feel like your outside. TV's have lots of different sporting events showing. Have never eaten here so can not comment on the food.

“drinks only”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Busy, noisy, beer smelly college bar experience. Sometimes this works for me. Not here. If you stop at a drink. Fine. The food is sub par greasy pub fare. We had "dinner" here at our alumni Penn State sons suggestion. We ordered, Fish and Chips, Steak salad, and Chicken fingers. Ohhh yes, peanut butter chicken wings to start. Of course with this selection we were not expecting anything more than college pub food. It was terrible. We barely ate a thing. I suggest you move on. Simply inedible. Sorry.

“Ok place. Just go here for the peanut butter hot wings.”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

Yes that's exactly what i said. Peanut butter hot wings. We were walking by the front of this place looking for a place to have a quick lunch and we saw thise wings on the menu and figured we'd try them. Place was nice looking pub like restaurant . A bit understaffed . ( Our server was also the bartender ) The peanut butter hot wings were great and different. I tried making them at home and my version was even better but what a cool twist on wings.

“Drinking Yes, Food a sideshow”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

This is a better than average bar in State College which has a good mix of people and generally efficient service during the peak football weekends. If you are looking for food as your main object, then this is not your place. The food is ok, average, and there in case you get hungry while drinking! However, if you are looking for a good place to have some beers with friends before or after the game, then this will be an above average location. I generally end up here at some time or another during any football weekend.

“Worst experience ever!”
Reviewed November 3, 2012

I went to this place for an afternoon meal (early dinner, around 5-6 pm). That must be the time when the manager is not there and a bunch of college kids left alone. The service was terrible, the waiter literally lauged at us when we ordered from the menu and he said they don't have it. Then finally we could get something that they actually had- a philly cheesesteak. The worst philly cheesesteak I ever had in my life! The chips were stale, the pickle was dry (old), the bread was stale, and the sandwich did not have anything that they promised in the menu. Dry, old sandwich. It is definitely the wrong place to go to get a sandwich. Thinking that they don't even have the beer offered on the menu, why go back? I would never go back to this place.
