While the setting was beautiful and manor impressive, our small room in the Carriage House was a disappointment. Lukewarm water in the shower, outdoor furniture (wicker/iron), noisy neighbors, and dirty carpet made this stay less than satisfactory. Breakfast was acceptable, coffee was good, and a hike in the woods was the best part.

Room Tip: Do not bother with the "Geneva" room. It seems more like staying in someone's basement...

Dear Elizabeth,
Thank you very much for your constructive criticism. It is by receiving comments such as yours that we may strive to improve upon our services, decor and quality.

The French Manor is a family run business in which we truly care for all aspects of our guest’s comfort. We are sorry that the guests next door were a bit noisy. We assure you that this is not typical behavior in the guests that come to the French Manor Inn and Spa. In the future, please feel free to let us know of your discomfort and we will certainly try to accommodate you in one of our other lovely rooms or suites if available.

We have taken all of your comments seriously and in fact, have had the carpets shampooed in that room since your stay. Although you may not have particularly liked the way we decorated that room, you may enjoy staying in any of the other individually decorated accommodations at The French Manor Inn and Spa. We would be happy to describe each room in detail when making your reservation. All of our staff are very familiar with each guestroom and suite.

Again, thank you very much for posting your review. If you have any other concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office. We would be delighted to hear from you again and hope for the opportunity to welcome you back to the French Manor in the future.

My wife and I spent my birthday at the French Manor Oct. 21 - Oct. 24. BnB is beautiful place but with some issues. Breakfast and view where by far the spotlight of Inn. A jacket is required for dinner, which is fine, however we didn't see what the big deal was, in the three nights we stayed, we never saw more than one couple eating dinner there. The 16% tax they charge is ridiculous in my opinion. Rooms: nice, however no temp. adjustment in room, very uncomfortable at times. We did not receive fresh towels everyday, odd. Noone around at desk when you need them, we waited 20 mins upon check in before someone arrived at desk...Do your research on things to do...unless you like to do nothing but sit in a bar, the closet diner is 40 mins away, let alone a real steak house or sea food joint. 160 mile trip for us each way, and appx 400 miles in misc. driving to find food, attractions. For the cost of this trip, we could've gone to any of Sandals 11 resorts. This Inn is best for one-night stays when in the area.

Dear Frankiep16,

Thank you for your review regarding your recent stay at the French Manor Inn and Spa. We appreciate your constructive criticism. We take pride in offering a relaxing and tranquil location for our guests to enjoy a quiet escape from the hustle and bustle. By offering a lovely mountaintop setting, relaxing spa facility with pool and fitness room, excellent restaurant and cafe which is open every night - one need not leave the property to enjoy their stay. However, being located in the middle of the Pocono region it is a short drive to most of the Pocono attractions such as antiquing, outlet shopping, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, boating, and many wonderful restaurants. The Pocono Mountains is a 4 county region of NE PA, so guests should know that this beautiful region is mostly rural with several historic towns dotted here and there. We would be happy to help create a custom itinerary for your stay prior to your arrival.

Being a Green facility, we do encourage guests to participate in our water conservation program which allows guests to reuse their towels more than once. So if housekeeping noticed that you re-hung your towels to dry after you used them, they most likely understood this as you wanting to conserve as stated in the framed sign located in your guestroom bathroom. We apologize if we misunderstood your needs at that time. In future, simply leave your used towels on the floor or in the tub and our housekeeping staff will certainly refresh your towels.

State law requires that we add PA sales tax (which is 6%) and Wayne County law requires that we add a local occupancy tax of 3%. These taxes along with a service charge (which is in lieu of gratuities for housekeeping, breakfast staff, turn-down service, and any other service personal included in your package) is defined in the confirmation letter that was sent to you prior to your arrival. I hope this helps clarify any charges. Please do not hesitate to contact our office directly if you have any other questions or concerns. We will be happy to help in any way.

Thank you again for your review and we do hope you have the opportunity to visit the French Manor Inn and Spa again in the future. We hope we have the opportunity to help you create the perfect getaway.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Inn for two nights. The property and views are quite lovely, and I can imagine it will be breathtaking in the fall. We, however, will not be coming back.

Unfortunately, this hotel did not live up to its reputation, nor did it live up to our expectations. The rooms are pricey, for no discernible reason. We were switched out of our first room because of SIGNFICANT cleanliness issues, and were changed to another room which also had some issues (but by that time I was too tired to complain and just wanted to go home). The suites (we were in two) are tired and certainly not the quality one would expect for a hotel that purports to be an elegant luxury establishment. In fact, I just looked at some of the user posted pictures online, and see that the second room we stayed in (which WAS much nicer than the first) has not had its decor freshened since 2007! The restaurant is over priced and the food is certainly not 4 stars (trust me, we know whereof we speak). Just because a jacket is required does not mean the food is memorable. There were issues there too. Spa services pricier than at much higher quality resorts and the philadelphia area. Beds ok, sheets wonderful.

Here's where the compliments come in...The entire Staff cannot be nicer. The managment was pleasant and apologetic. They were immediately responsive to our complaints/concerns. They switched us to another room, and left roses, a split of Korbel and a complimentary cheese tray (with no knife to cut the cheese lol). They did take money off our final bill, which we appreciated. The views are superb. Breakfast, which comes with the room, was wonderful. The restaurant is pretty, but it would be much improved if there was a formal bar for a before or after dinner drink, since there is not a formal lobby - its your room or nothing. The Inn is a lovely building and the grounds are well kept.

In the final analysis, its a shame the Inn does not step it up a few notches and commit to live up to its own hype. Its got a ton of potential, but perhaps its lived on its laurels way too long. We will not return because, quite frankly, there are too many other establishments that truly deserve the appellation of luxury spa and resort, and are much better values for the money.

Tip = (1) We had a much nicer, more enjoyable and much more fun dinner *(much less expensive) the next evening at The Hotel in the village; (2) Pay attention to the service charges, especially the "bartender" gratuity, before tipping out to the staff.

This isn't your typical B&B. It is very isolated, and quite upscale with rooms in the main building which used to be a home for some rich guy, and a couple of other buildings. It has an indoor heated saltwater pool and jacuzzi which open to the outdoors in nice weather, and a spa and well-equipped exercise room, which I have not used. The restaurant is simply amazing. Best deal is to get their Enchanted Evening package which includes dinner. Breakfast is fresh made and from a menu. Staff is very pleasant and Genevieve is quite helpful once you get to know her.
The view is spectacular. Don't use your GPS for the French Manor. Instead, just follow the GPS to South Sterling and about a mile after the Sterling Inn, turn left on Huckleberry Road, follow it about half a mile and turn right into the inn's very long driveway.
There is a hiking trail, but it has a very steep section and you will want a walking stick.

Room Tip: Depends on what you are looking for. If you want the intimacy and old-time ambiance of the inn, stay...

My wife and I were looking for a special place to spend our wedding anniversary. The Inn looked like it filled the bill. It was expensive but we saved a bit by making the booking on the day we arrived. We arrived in time for the afternoon tea. Then in the room there were provided good cheeses and sherry. We enjoyed a walk around the property and a swim in the excellent indoor pool. The dinner was formal and expensive but it was worth it; the food and its presentation were tops, and we felt very special and certainly were treated very well. Next day the provided breakfast was very good and then we were off to enjoy nearby Bushkill Falls.

Room Tip: There are only 15 rooms. We were happily upgraded to the Versailles room, which is in the main build...

From our first phone call to check out, these people were amazing. Every time we talked with someone they knew exactly what our questions were and how to answer them because they keep notes of previous conversations on hand. (We asked questions such as 'what if it rains, then what do you do for horse riding?'- and that is a question they need to refer to a third party OR this question, 'can we decide when we get there which room we want to eat?' OR this loose question 'we want this champagne but we are not sure yet depending whether it is cooler when we arrive for we might want a red wine, instead?'). Our questions and their informed knowledge of our 'silly' questions showed excellent pride in their communicating with clients because, as you can imagine, a small B&B in a rural area that is family owned and run, yet dependent on locals to serve their guests could easily stray into miscommunications. We actually found every single person we spoke with to be pleasant, friendly and accommodating. The staff at the front desk, in the dining areas and the quiet but often unseen staff- those that cleaned and swept, were ALL smiling and friendly! Some of the staff were also very congratulatory when speaking with us, having learned we were just wed. This was sweet, really sweet!

The B&B is nestled in a hidden away country spot, a little secret hide-away if you will. We stayed in the Soleil room (#5 of the Spa rooms) and were more than pleased with the furnishings and room layout, including the cleanliness! We could not hear anything while staying in this room. It was very private and very pleasant.

We had dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch (for a couple's horse riding retreat) by the French Manor chef and kitchen staff. There was always more than enough food in each meal, and they accommodated scrumptious, vegetarian meals for me.

I did not read the reviews for The French Manor until just before writing my own, therefore after our stay. Both my husband and I have nothing but positive and highly regarded experiences to share about the French Manor. It is extremely disappointing to read some of the really rude; bordering on disgusting, reviews about The French Manor. We honestly feel the negatively written reviews reflect more about the writers and less about the French Manor and their staff. We loved that we stayed in a beautiful B&B and were surrounded by dignified, personable and pleasant locals who took pride in their pleasant dispositions and ensuring we had a lovely stay. I have lived and travelled in many beautiful and exquisite cities and nooks of the world. I always prefer those stays where the people around you are not clinical and robotic but choose rather to be professional, pleasant and keep a hint of their own personality, too! Moreover, the reviews that degrade the cost of the stay obviously do not grasp the concept of small business ownership and the revenue needed to support the many staff employed to keep client's accommodation and service as they are.

We applaud the French Manor!

We will visit The French Manor again and HIGHLY recommend this B&B!

Room Tip: We thought our room, The Soleil room- a part of the Spa suites, was wonderful!

Stayed at the French Manor Inn & Spa overnight this past weekend, and everything (almost) was completely lovelyl

Check in was effortless. Spa suite (#2) was huge, with our own balcony, and so convenient to our spa treatments, saltwater pool, hot tub & outdoor lounging chairs. Had a wonderfully relaxing massage & facial (thanks, Robin!), and the opportunity to use the hot tub, pool and lounge chairs. The room was very comfortable, with every amenity, and the most comfortable bed!

Had dinner reservations in the main dining room - FANTASTIC - like being in France. I thought it was nice that men were required to wear jackets. Dinner itself was expensive, as other people have posted, but we had a fantastic meal. The Raspberry-Lavender martini was the best I ever had, and the grilled lobster & filet entree was superb, followed by a perfect raspberry-chocolate souffle.

The only few gliches were them ordering the wrong breakfast in the morning for me (which has AMAZING views - I can only imagine in the Fall!), and us having to ask for two bottles of water three times, for our refrigerator in our room.

Would absolutely return for a romantic, overnight stay : ) !

Lori

Room Tip: Spa rooms are lovely, and convenient to all!
