“Afternoon tea is a special treat from a bygone era”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

People bemoan the lack of old manners and old customs, but these things still exist; you just need to look beyond the "common". I reserved afternoon tea for myself and my mother while on vacation in the Laurel Highlands.

Our hostess was very gracious and presented us with our menus – personalized for us! Our server brought us water and gave us some information about the type of tea we would be having that afternoon - Angel's Dream, which was a green and black tea blend with hints of maple and blackberry. Our server noted that it was her favorite, and we could see why!

Our first course was a plate of delicate, artfully-presented sandwiches that included chicken salad with grapes and lingonberries, egg salad with capers and dill, and toasted mushroom points. The second course was a scone with fruit preserves and clotted cream. (Clotted cream on a well-made scone really is one of life's great pleasures, incidentally.) Third course was a piece of lemon cake with sorbet, which was a lovely finish to our tea.

Everybody is in such a mad rush, all the time. Here, you can take your time...savor...and enjoy the little bites of heaven prepared especially for you. We seem to have forgotten how to relax in our fast-paced, modern world. It's wonderful that The Georgian Inn preserves the ritual of afternoon tea so well.

“Delightful meal with great service”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

Arriving at the restaurant we found we had a reserved table with our name on it. We hadn't reserved the table but the hotel makes tables available to guests first. The food was wonderful, the service impeccable. Good wine list. A very nice experience.

“Do Not Miss This!”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

To say our dining experience was exceptional is an understatement. We called ahead for reservations and to make certain they could accomodate our allergies. The building housing the restaurant is stunning and sits on top of a hill. Our party of four was greeted when we arrived for dinner and seated at a lovely table overlooking the countryside. Our table had a framed 8/10 reservation with the name of our party on it - quite impressive. However, even more impressive were the menus - each one had the name of our party printed at the top! Our waitress was attentive but not intrusive. The chef sent a an appetizer "taste" of tomato and cheese with dressing as soon as we placed our order. Both House and Caesar Salad were accompanied by warm sourdough rolls - delicious. The chef then sent over a lovely sorbet to cleanse our palate. The 8 oz. Fliet Mignon special was done to perfection (the men had this) as were the Sea Scallops and Grilled Atlantic Salmon. The Spring Vegetable Melange and creamy Risotto were excellent as well. The four of us shared two wonderful Blueberry Cobblers topped with Vanilla Ice-cream (it was more than enough). Finally, the chef sent over a dark chocolate confection "bite" filled with melt-in-your-mouth creamy deliciousness. Bottled water and iced tea were our drinks of choice. The entire bill for the four of us totaled $134 plus tip. It was an absolutely perfect dining experience and well worth every penny! If you ever are in Somerset, PA, make this your first stop for dinner; you will not be disappointed!

“Best place to eat when traveling across Pennsylvania”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

It's typically a challenge to find a great restaurant close to the turnpike, but this place fits the bill. Who would think a restaurant of this caliber would be located in Somerset Pennsylvania. When you arrive @ this beautiful Georgia mansion (built in 1915), you are escorted to your table and presented with a menu that has your surname imprinted on the menu. What a nice touch! The wait staff wears white gloves and is quite attentive. We began with a shooter (cup) of vichyssoise and the escargot. Both were done superbly. The escargot were the largest I have ever seen and were succulent. Salad is included with the entree. I had the caesar, which was very good, just a little over-dressed. My wife had the garden salad with a wonderful lemon-blue cheese dressing. For our main course, we had the Arctic char with couscous and asparagus (yummy) and the lamb chops with mashed potatoes and a wonderful reduction sauce. Prior to the main course, they brought a mango pallet cleanser to the table. Made from scratch, and it really hit the spot. We opted to skip desert but were surprised with a small thimble made of dark chocolate and filled with white chocolate mousse.
This is a "special occasion restaurant and just a wonderful jewel in Somerset, Pennsylvania.

“Very nice dining experience; gluten-free friendly”
Reviewed June 13, 2013

Very pleasant setting and atmosphere. Attention to little things; they printed menus with our name and had them on our table; they brought a piece of gluten free bread to the table, and between each course they had a tiny 'amuse-geule' plate.

The menu prices are offputting if you don't look at the bottom for the $20 specials [may not be available weekends]. Wine by the glass with the usual high but not obscene markup.

Reservations advisable, I suspect.

Thank you for dining with us! We are pleased that you had a nice experience. I am glad you noticed the little things such as your name printed on your menu. We take pleasure in making our guests feel at home and welcome. We believe that this is one way to achieve that goal. We believe the amuse is a great touch to the service we provide. It's nice to hear that you enjoyed it as well. Our menu prices require careful consideration due to the fact that we provide fresh ingredients. The highest of quality allows us to maintain our standards. Every item on each of our menus undergoes a process that may take up to 6 weeks. This process includes quality, guest feedback and for wines, pairing with our dishes. If a menu item or wine makes it through this process, it is then placed on our menu. We are also aware of the dietary needs and restrictions that are on the rise and do not think twice about accommodating any guest with this need. Thank you again and we hope to see you in the future!
