Simply that the food is bad quality, and ridiculously overpriced for what they offer! Meat overcooked, no healthy alternatives in the children buffet (white rice would be welcome there!) very pretentious style for plain bad food.

Just returned from 2 midweek nights and 3 days at Skytop Lodge. The heading of this review should read as Skytop's Main Dining Room. This is where the dining occurs and where most normals eat breakfast, lunch and dinner during their stay at Skytop. The Windsor Dining Room is beyond the Main Dining Room and is reserved for special occasions and very special guests who reserve it for private dinner parties.
Now....about the Main Dining Room.... it is THE experience at Skytop, if only just to enjoy your breakfast there. Go to sit and enjoy the windows, and the views of the gardens from those windows. Also enjoy the ceiling and the old wood beams. It is a big old grand place and something to savor. When we were there, before Christmas crowds, it was delightful to just sit and sip coffee and soak in all that old grandeur. You could sense the ghosts of high society uppity ups from years gone by. Doubtful that this could be enjoyed this much when the place is full of guests. Skytop caters to families and this means children and this means noise, and I can only guess as to what the Main Dining Room must sound like when it gets full to capacity, especially for breakfast, and especially with a hangover.
We stayed on the B&B Plan so we enjoyed 2 breakfasts in the Main Dining Room, served from 7 to 9:30 AM. Get there early to enjoy the best of the best of the fresh fruits and juices. The pastries were a disappointment. You won't want to fill up on pastry anyway, since your sit down breakfast awaits.
I can recommend the Poached Eggs Over Corned Beef Hash as a breakfast entrée. I did not like the Omelet Entrée with Mushroom, Ham and Cheese or the Home Fries. I can recommend the side of bacon and not the side of sausage patties. You will have to ask for toast as an extra side. Go ahead! Be bold! The coffee is delicious but it is served one cup at a time. I guess this is an ambience thing, but when the Dining Room gets busy, you have to wait longer and longer for each refill as the servers get busier and busier.
Summary- This is a great room, full of character. It is part of the Lodge experience to stroll out of your tiny bedroom, down the big staircase, and into the vast Main Dining Room, where you will be greeted by the servers with respectful smiles and good morning cheer. Be mindful of the Message Board telling you to remove your baseball hat, or snowcap, and to not even think about answering cell phones or e-mail while you are having breakfast in the Main Dining Room. My advice is to come early and to come hungry!
I did not eat lunch or dinner in the Main Dining Room. I am certain that it would also be an experience to remember. I'll try and make a return to Skytop in the Spring or Summer, if just to discover more of what the Skytop Campus has to offer after the snow and ice melts. I am not expecting to be invited to eat in the Windsor Dining Room when I do, but if I do, I will report back!
Happy travels and Merry Christmas!

And PLEASE wash the chairs. The chair backs and bottoms are DISGUSTING! If you don't want to wash the chairs, put a bottle of Purell on the table!

Just good hotel food. Temperature of food served was not hot, like it was sitting under the lights waiting for us. The staff is great!

We had two children with us, and more could not have been done to accommodate/please them. Best food we've had at a resort in a very long time, and extremely good service. No problems of any type at any meal.
