We live not too far from Sky Top and have been told how wonderful it is. Yes, the grounds are breathtaking. The structure itself is a monument to history. We made our dinner reservations and drove in with great anticipation. As soon as we walked in the front door, our bubble burst. When they found out we were not staying there and "just lived nearby", we were escorted to a table behind a pillar. Yes, there are several pillars in the dining room, but we were sat facing it. After 10 minutes just sitting there, our waiter finally came over with bread and water! (hmmm, prison food?) At last, we were given menus. After making our selections, I chose not to have the wine listed. I asked for a California Merlot. (A "Hrumph" from our waiter.) Our meal was served and about half way through along came our wine. Now, I'm not on the board of "Wine Spectator". but I do know a good wine. Believe me, this wasn't. Aside from the fact that the glasses were filled to the brim!, it tasted like what the kids call "jug wine." My husband ordered the Veal Medallions, which to the chef's credit were excellent. I ordered the Tenderloin of Beef. I hate to say this, but my pot roast is better! I needed a serrated steak knife to cut it! For the better part of our dining there, we were ignored, The waiters were falling all over the tables around us. Since we didn't know the 15% gratuity was included, my husband added it on! The gentleman who brought our bill didn't point this out but was more interested (and persistent) that my husband sign on the correct line!) After waiting so long to dine there all we can say is that we will never go back and would not recommend Sky Top because of the way "non guests" are treated. There are so many wonderful places to dine right around Canadensis and Mountainhome that welcome you no matter where you are from!
