When we came, a friendly man came and offered to take our things. Inside, it was warm and comfy. They gave 2 cookies out each day to us for free. Also, the room was very clean and the pillow and bed was confortable. Go here again!

Our family of four stayed two nights recently. As other reviewers have noted, the inn has a lot of charm, and the old photos of celebrities from days gone by were so interesting. For being 100 years old, the inn is in good shape. Sure, the carpet in our room showed its age, and some bathroom tiles were cracked, but everything was safe and clean. The beds were very comfortable, and the river view couldn't be beat. Kudos to the friendly staff, especially Alder, Rob, and the bartenders. They made us feel very welcome. Another plus - access to craft brews at the bar!

Some cons:
- The hot tub wasn't hot; apparently a part was on order. This seems to be typical of many hotels we visit!
- The pool ran out of towels, and housekeepers in the hallway wouldn't fork any over since their towels for the guest rooms. The front desk said more towels were on the way, but 15 minutes later when we wanted to leave the pool, still no towels. Knowing that the hotel wouldn't want us dripping through their lobby and hallways, I got some towels from a housekeeper's cart.
- The River Room breakfast buffet was fine and reasonably priced. However, the service at dinner was so slow. There were only 3-4 other tables taken, so I'm not sure why it took so long.
- The game room definitely needs some investment. $100 could cover new ping pong paddles, chess and Jenga games with all pieces, and a TV remote. With all of the families staying here, this room is completely underutilized.

I have stayed at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort many times. It is the perfect place for a weekend getaway in any season. The rooms at the Inn are always clean and comfortable. The resort has everything you need- Spa, Indoor Pool, Golf Course, Restaurant, Café, etc...There is also a very charming General Store within walking distance and the Gem and Keystone Brewery is awesome. I was lucky to stay in one of the Worthington Suites this past stay and it was perfect. It was spacious, modern, immaculate and true luxury. If you have a chance to stay there, it is worth the price. The staff at arrival were genuine and friendly. I love the Shawnee Inn and would not consider staying anywhere else in the Poconos.

Stayed 2 nights with our newborn baby and in-laws in two connecting rooms. Our king-bed room was rather cramped whereas our in-laws' double bed room was a bit more spacious. The beds were clean but both rooms showed their age and badly needed some updates. Was also quite surprised that for a golf resort there was no mini-fridge and safety box in our rooms.

The indoor swimming pool was large by any hotel's standard with also a jacuzzi pool. However, getting towels was a challenge as the pool attendant was constantly away. The hotel ground was quaint and beautiful with the Delaware River flows by. Thoroughly enjoyed the walks in both dusk and morning.

Now comes to services. We went for breakfast at the River Room one morning and waited at the table for over 30 minutes with nobody came to take the order despite repeated callings and waving. (We are small eaters so we opted to order a la carte instead of buffet. I know the buffet requires minimal service and makes better bucks but the restaurant DID offer a la carte choices.) We actually gave up having breakfast there the other morning because no one even came to seat us after waiting at the door for 5 minutes. Checkout was another painfully slow process as there was only one clerk at the reception (and a large family doing both checkout and new booking before me).

No doubt the hotel has had its glorious days and people would continue to appreciate its old charms but the management really needs to put its act together in terms of revitalizing the property (oh, did I mention a false fire alarm went off one morning?) and improving services.

Room Tip: HIgh floor facing the river would be nice

Dear BandBtraveller - Thank you for your review. I appreciate your candid remarks and have taken them to heart. As a historic resort, our rooms are different shapes and sizes. This adds to the character of our resort. The unique amenities that we provide in our guest rooms and the quality of our beds and soft goods add to your comfort during your stay. We do have our Worthington Suites that are larger and more spacious.

Service. I have no excuse for the slow service you received. Please rest assured that I have met with all our other managers and made some changes to help alleviate the service issues you faced.

We are fortunate to have the magnificent location and rich history. I promise to continue working on plans to upgrade the facilities and train the staff on delivering exceptional service. Please give us a try in the future and see the changes that have occurred.

This resort is preserving the charming and classy atmosphere dating back to the 1920s in a breathtakingly beautiful surrounding fronted by Delaware River. My wife and I enjoyed staying here for two nights, and we would have given a 5-star except for a very unpleasant experience with a fishing guide named Will. He was a non-stop talker during the trip, even venting his anger against the Federal government and the gays. It seemed giving you an enjoyable fishing experience on the river was only secondary to him.

Dear Uta110 - First off, let me apologize for how uncomfortable our fishing guide made your time on the water. I have spoken to him and we offer no excuses, just a sincere apology. Our employee mission is to offer exceptional service to every guest at every opportunity. We missed the mark on the water. We are fortunate to have a classic resort in a breathtaking setting. Our staff will go above and beyond for you to have an exceptional visit. Please give us another try.

What a nice place. You can walk around and just imagine what it was like in the '20's and '30's. And frankly, I think that some of the thinks are exactly he same.

When was the last time you were in a hotel with a grand staircase, a real fire roaring in the lobby that you never see anyone tending but is always going strong or a pool the size of New Jersey with a hot tub the size of most hotel's pools?

Some things could use some updating or minor repair but these are easy to overlook for the overall atmosphere.

The River Room was great for dinner, worth what may be a little extra money to not have to leave the building.

I look forward to coming back in a different season.

This hotel looked like something out of in old time movie! It was spectacular because they kept the old charm but have beautiful chandeliers, fire places and plenty of things to do! We came to stay for 3 nights and 4 days and enjoyed the large indoor pool, bar area and large trees with decorations for the holidays! As soon as we pulled up Andrew came out and assisted us with our bags, he then continually checked on us as we looked around the hotel at the amenities and made sure our every need was meet! The gentlemen at the front desk made the check in process very easy and help us with ordering delivery for our children! Awesome hotel for families or couples.

Room Tip: We had a room on the second floor which was very convenient to the pool, bar and front desk
