We stayed in the Ridge Top unit 161, July 8-15, 2012. The check in went very well. I had asked for an upgraded unit, but did not get one. The one we got was fine. The first thing we saw at the unit was the plastic bag of towels for the unit. Actually, I first thought it was a bag of trash left by the previous occupants. When I got inside and realized there were no towels n the bathrooms, I figured it out. I must say this practice surprised me - I have never had to unpack our towels before. Not a big deal. Also the kitchen package of towels, cloths and soaps was missing along with some of the glasses and plates. A call to the front desk was responded to quickly and efficiently. Next, I went to try the WiFi. The signal is very strong, but alas, it is $6.95 per day. When will the resort people follow the example of Motel 6 and provide free access in the units. Seriously, if I had a choice between a resort that charged for WiFi and one that provided it free, I would choose the free WiFi. I was able to connect for free in the visitor center. However, on Tuesday, the free access disappeared. I did not try again.
Although these incidents were irritating, they did not interfere with us enjoying the resort! Now that my whining is over, the rest is quite positive. The unit is spacious with two floors. There is a nice size kitchen with full size appliances. There are sufficient utensils, pots, pans and cookware. The furniture is somewhat dated, but clean. I mean, the resort does not have any RCI distinction at all, and was built in the 80's - what do you expect? Anyway it was clean and comfortable. The screened in porch was a plus. There were 2 and a half baths. One for each bedroom and one powder room downstairs. The towels were well placed for use by the occupants (sorry, could not resist!). The unit was well air conditioned on the lower floor. There were not vents upstairs, but you could open the windows at night if you needed it. We did not - the air was fine from downstairs. If you are driving and have room, I recommend you bring a fan to push the cool air upstairs. Overall the unit met or exceeded our expectations.
The resort itself is excellent. Well maintained and well marked. There are daily activities planned for those who prefer that sort of thing. There are 3 pools, a hot tub, several tennis courts all included. There are horseshoe pits, shuffle board, bocce ball courts, ping pong tables, indoor gym. Almost anything you would want. I am sure if they did not have some sort of entertainment or activity you wanted, they would manufacture it for you! The staff are excellent and focused on meeting your needs; they are very polite and helpful. For us, the best part of the resort was the river access at the Shawnee Inn. There is a small beach and the river is delightful.
At check in they gave us a coupon book for attractions and restaurants. Great deals in this book, There are restaurants of all types and each of them will offer resort guests a discount. We did do the mini golf and it was fun. It only costs $5.00 for resort guests. The course is pretty neat and I thought worth the price.
All in all a very good vacation. I read the reviews before I went and as usual I concluded, you can have as good a time as you are willing to have :-). The slight irritations we had were quickly handled and were certainly outweighed by the good things about the resort.
