My husband and two children ( 9 & 11) booked for two nights checking in on July 30th. Comparing the price of this hotel which includes the waterpark and the price of a hotel elsewhere and adding a local waterpark price, its actually is about the same. When the last minute save 15% was advertised we decided to stay here.
Based on reviews and what our friends told us about the food prices, we took snacks and drinks with us. Food is too expensive...snacks, buffet, drinks etc. Though getting a pizza at "Hungry as a Wolf," was reasonably priced. The welcome book in the room has a guide to local resturants, some that offer discounts if you are staying at Great Wolf.
The property is beautiful so is the hotel. We arrived at 2pm and our room was ready. Thats no surprise because on each floor you see mulitple cleaning carts, including a rug shampoo cleaner. We stayed in the Wolfs Den. Room WAS very clean, crayon writing on the table but its a kid hotel, I dont care. Room 2023. The smell others have mentioned "Musty" is there. Maybe from shampooing carpets too much, or from the AC unit? IDK but not a deal breaker for me. Alot of hotels I have visited have that, at the ocean especially.
Waterpark is wonderful. Maybe I am not as picky as others and examine every corner of the park but I didnt see algae or slime anywhere we played. Lots of different activities for all ages. Some have said wave pool is too small but I didnt feel it was. Maybe weekends are worse. Bathrooms for me are yucky. After many change and shower, brush their hair, it ends up all over the place. So they could be cleaned more often. LIFEGUARDS and STAFF are very attentive to swimmer safety. Though I wish they would enforce rules to keep the lazy river...just that, the lazy river. Kids/teens were pushing through, flipping tubes etc. We didnt need chairs or tables cause we choose not to eat there. Too expensive.
Again we ate elsewhere. Food overpriced and all buffet. I want to be waited on while on vacation or after a long day of long play.
Walls/floors allow to hear all foot traffic. It is an older hotel and most of those staying there are kids so I expected that. You will hear running and jumping. I was ok with quiet time at 11pm. Bring something to cover the noise, a fan or sound machine if it might be an issue for you.
Magiquest...It is pricy, adults may not find it worth it but of course the kids liked it. Though my kids and I agree if there was some kind of material reward for completing tasks it would be better. You do have to travel 4 different floors of the hotel...just FYI.
We thought about doing the Scooops Salon but it is ALOT cheaper and manicures last at regular salons. (they even have disclosure that stays that)
Didnt do arcade, kids wanted to do waterpark and Magiquest more.
After staying one night, using the waterpark, checking out other activities,we realized that one night was enough. We stayed late the next day and left without any problem or penalties. You can arrive early to use the hotel and stay till closing the next day. In that time with our kids we were able to everything we wanted without being bored.
For parents...Overall I liked it... If we go back again it would be only for one night. Lower food prices, seated service would make the place more attractive to stay at. Sounds like some rooms have small issues that others have concerns with, I was lucky not to have that but if fixed would again boost reviews.
For kids...Of course they loved it...The things I wrote and reviewed they dont care about. This hotel is for kids and if they are safe and happy, thats the main thing that matters!!
