It is a good place to stay if you have an event to go to at The Sovereign Center in Reading, PA., because it is within a comfortable walking distance.
The lobby and the Melody Tavern are beautiful and vintage. The staff at the Melody Tavern and at the hotel lobby desk were very helpful and accommodating during our stay. The restaurants they recommended were great! We had a very nice and large corner room on the top floor with a king bed. The bathroom was nice, the bed was comfortable.
The reasons I gave it 3 stars are - end tables in the room had layers of dust on them, carpeting worn and stained, small old style TV - not LCD. Also, another reason for 3 Star - Do Not Eat There - the breakfast buffet was awful - not just bad, and the service was non-existent in the dining room. We waited at least 5 minutes to be acknowledged and we had to flag someone down just to get a cup of coffee 10 minutes after arriving.
Bottom Line - I would stay in the same place in the same room if I was going to an event at the Sovereign Center again. It was a reasonable price. However, I would eat elsewhere for every meal.
