The Pagoda atop Mount Penn overlooks much of Berks County, PA and is a landmark symbol of the City of Reading, PA Tourists drive up that colorful mountain to take photographs of the city below. As a pilot, from the Pagoda I see much the same scene as on approach to landing at Reading Regional Airport.
The Pagoda was originally built as part of a resort in 1911, but the entrepreneur ran out of money. The edifice stood abandoned until the City of Reading took it over and refurbished the beautiful Oriental building. It now houses a gift shop, snack shop, and the upper floors are used by various local organizations for meetings and special events. Well worth the drop up Mt. Penn.
