It was very interesting to see a Pagoda on top of a mountain. The views of Reading from it were gorgeous. Its free and worth a look.

As a lifelong resident of Reading,PA,we take having the Pagoda with little regard until you decide to revisit this 100 year old landmark. The gift shop and snack area are very well kept, clean and has quite a selection. The walk up the steps to the top has something of interest for history buffs of all ages.
The top floor will give an incredible view of the city below and the outlying areas. It is not the same as it was in the 60's when I would hike up the mountain every Saturday, just to go to the top of the Pagoda when I got there. There has been quite a lot of build-up in those years and what was once a panorama of trees and color is now concrete, steel and glass.
It still gives the visitor a tingle inside just climbing the steps of this majestic mountain top creation.
Visitor hours are limited. If staying overnight in the Reading area, take a drive up Skyline Drive and bring your camera. The Pagoda, lit up at night is a photo for all ages. The Observation Tower is also worth a trip past and is slightly more than a mile away.

Note, my most recent visit was October 2011, however, I live in Philadelphia and thus have been to Reading and to see the pagoda a number of times. The pagoda is interesting, and a clime to the top provides an excellent view, but that's about all there is to it. If you are in Reading, then it's worth the effort to see it, however, it is not worth the effort to travel to Reading just to see it, you will find yourself with very little to do.
