Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: It was the year 1829 when Americans were getting used to their newly elected president, Andrew Jackson, that 23-year old David G. Yuengling, an immigrant from Wurttemberg, Germany, settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and started a brewery. Originally named the Eagle Brewery, today the Yuengling pride, symbolic of the American Eagle. Each Yuengling label bears the eagle trademark chosen by young David Yuengling so long ago. Previously located on Centre Street, current site of Pottsville's after only two years of operation. A new brewery was then constructed on Mahantongo Street, where operations continue today. The brewery remains family operated by Richard "Dick" Yuengling, Jr. and his daughters are being groomed as the sixth generation.

“Yuengling Brewery”

Nice tour. Wear comfortable shoes as you WILL be traversing hillsides, small staircases, etc. Well worth the price (FREE) Note, if you can avoid a Friday, you will see the bottling sequence. They do canning on most Fridays.

“Great tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 11, 2013

One of my husband's favorite beers is Yeungling, ever since it came to Cleveland, OH. When we found that Yeungling was in the area while we were visiting Hawk Mtn., we decided to take their tour. I don't drink beer but thoroughly enjoyed the tour anyways. Very informative tour and very entertaining. It was great to hear the owner is so involved in the daily operations of the company - very refreshing and commendable. My husband enjoyed trying some of the beers that he has not had the opportunity to try in Cleveland.

“Loved it!”

My husband and I are great fans of Yuengling and we made the trip to Pottsville just for the brewery. The tour was great and the sample at the end was good too! If you go on a weekend, it is very busy so get thee early. They say that weekday tours are less crowded, you get to see the beer actually being made, and you get two samples at the end instead of 1. The tour is free and well worth it. There is only street parking, but we managed to find a spot.

“Oldest US Brewery Tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

We recently toured the original Yuengling Brewery located in Pottsville, PA. If you are a fan of good beer and history a stop at this brewery will be worthwhile. They have one tour in the morning and another in the afternoon. You go right down on the brewery floor and even get into the caves under the brewery that were used to keep the beer cold. The caves stay art 50 degrees year round. I was familiar with Yuengling's lager and black and tan beers, but to my delight they also make a wonderful porter and chesterfield ale. They are too large to be considered a craft brewer but they have some really good beers. The tour guide was entertaining and informative. Of course they give you samples at the end of the tour. However, if you want to buy some of the beer you will have to go to the local stores. Directions are available at the brewery.
