Owner description: It was the year 1829 when Americans were getting used to their newly elected president, Andrew Jackson, that 23-year old David G. Yuengling, an immigrant from Wurttemberg, Germany, settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and started a brewery. Originally named the Eagle Brewery, today the Yuengling pride, symbolic of the American Eagle. Each Yuengling label bears the eagle trademark chosen by young David Yuengling so long ago. Previously located on Centre Street, current site of Pottsville's after only two years of operation. A new brewery was then constructed on Mahantongo Street, where operations continue today. The brewery remains family operated by Richard "Dick" Yuengling, Jr. and his daughters are being groomed as the sixth generation.

“Great trip to see how breweries worked prior to refrigeration”

It's a nice change of pace to see how things used to be. Be prepared to walk up and down , in and around the brewery. At the end is a great tasting room

“Fun and Interesting!”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

A group of friends and I try to get together once or twice a year to visit a new brewery . We do it as an excuse to get together and try some good beer. This Brewery had so much history and a really cool story to tell. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and excited about the story as well. There was a lot to see and the tour was very active. And of course it was great to end the free tour with 2 free samples at the end! Also a great store before you left to buy goods!

“Great Tour close to home”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

We finally went on the tour after living within 30 miles for 10 years. We went on a weekday and the tour was excellent. The guides were very knowledgable and friendly. They took time to answer all the questions, even the "dumb" ones. It was unique to walk through the "cave" and experience what the brewery was like many years ago. Would recommend this tour to history buffs, even if they are not necessarily beer lovers.

Great tour guide....we went on a Saturday and thought it would have been nice to go on a weekday when the brewery is in operation.

“Great Tour”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

Very informative tour. It was great to be up close and personal rather than behind plexiglass.

We did it on a weekend and I would love to do it again on a weekday when production is running.
