Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: It was the year 1829 when Americans were getting used to their newly elected president, Andrew Jackson, that 23-year old David G. Yuengling, an immigrant from Wurttemberg, Germany, settled in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, and started a brewery. Originally named the Eagle Brewery, today the Yuengling pride, symbolic of the American Eagle. Each Yuengling label bears the eagle trademark chosen by young David Yuengling so long ago. Previously located on Centre Street, current site of Pottsville's after only two years of operation. A new brewery was then constructed on Mahantongo Street, where operations continue today. The brewery remains family operated by Richard "Dick" Yuengling, Jr. and his daughters are being groomed as the sixth generation.

“Interesting tour, beer samples”
Reviewed April 25, 2012

The free tour was interesting, and with a small group it was personal enough to ask questions. There are a lot of stairs, but it's an old brewery in a tall building, so that's not super shocking. Free samples at the end.

“Oldest Brewery in U.S.A & family owned”
Reviewed April 20, 2012

Not sure why it took us this long to visit Yuengling since we live less than an hour away; it is a worthwhile visit; tour is "FREE" and includes a sample of beer or root beer. Noticed people complain about the small size of the "FREE" sample, if you want more, visit Maroon's as suggested for a great lunch. The tour was very informative thanks to our guide, a young lady who informed us she was only 20 years old, She was knowledgeable; personable and funny; everything you want in a tour guide.
As the website informs you, there are a lot of steps so wear the proper footwear; aslo, if possible go during the week you can see the brewery in operation. They offer a lot of Yuengling merchandise at a very reasonable cost.

“The best beer around!”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

The tour is free and its extremly informative. Its a very old brewery and anyone interested in how to make beer will really enjoy this tour. Samples at the end of the tour are given and the beer tastes JUST SO MUCH BETTER when you get it there! They don't sell it at the brewery though because they don't want to take business away from their loyal distributors in the area. Yuengling beer is definately one of the best American beers around and its great that its still being made in the original location after all these years.

Free tours with free samples! What more could you ask for? Friendly locals give tours. Head over to Maroon's for good food and a wide selection of Yeungling brews.
