“Perfect luxury hotel in Pittsburgh”
Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

The Omni is just what we wanted for a weekend getaway to Pittsburgh. It's old-fashioned in the sense of having a huge, Gilded Age lobby and large rooms with high ceilings. At the same time, it has all the conveniences of a modern hotel. Room service food was excellent, as was the breakfast buffet. Service was excellent everywhere. I would single out Norval, one of the bellman, for special praise. Martie, one of the servers in the restaurant, was extremely courteous and efficient. My wife likes very bright hotel rooms, and so she thought the room could have been slightly better lit, but that was really a modest problem. The only "drawback" to the hotel is that our room (951) was so large that we couldn't hear each other from one end of the room to the other! That's the kind of problem that I enjoy.

I had stayed here before but this time I was in charge of hosting a large sales meeting. Overall our guests were extremely pleased with their accomodations. The historic rooms are well kept and recently remodeled. Some of the bathroom layouts were a little odd but that is expected in older facilities. The room amenities were top notch with reading light on the bed, flat screen TVs, refrigerators, blackout curtains and love the fact I could sit in the window and look out. The food was great...and this alone makes or breaks a large meeting. Even though the hotel has several floors the elevators were very quick. The historic meeting rooms were a little hard to hear some of our guest speakers because the vaulted ceiling caried voices upward so I would suggest using a mic even in a small class room setting. We were pleased with our service.

Room Tip: Ask for one with a great view.

Our suite was beautiful and the service was wonderful. The hotel has been restored and is "old world style". The staff was very nice and accommodating. The subway is just across the street. There are several entrances and the numbering system on the elevators is a bit odd. The WP floor is for the William Penn exit.

Have stayed here before but this is my first time since rooms have been renovated. A corner room with 2 double-beds; bedding was excellent quality & lots of pillows. Other features: large flat screen tv sitting on a cabinet which held a coffee maker in one side and a refrigerator and safe on the other - nice to have these out of sight - large deep drawers in the middle. Also, reading lights cleverly and conveniently built into the head boards of the beds. A night light on the base of the nightstand that came on automatically when someone got up during the night. All lamps had dimmer switches. A good sized closet with ample hangers; iron, board & a bottle of spray starch! Lots of towels & toiletries. If you are an Omni Select Guest, free wi-fi, free morning beverage & free bottled water upon arrival. Staff was unfailingly friendly & polite, great service everywhere - front desk, restaurant, bars. There is a Starbucks off the main lobby and a Brugger's Bagels accessible from a staircase near the front desk. One small complaint - a charge for using computers in Business Center, you can print your boarding pass for free but if you want to do anything else, it will cost $6.95 for 15 minutes & additional to print. I needed to print a 2 page document for a meeting and it cost $8.75 - seemed excessive.

Room Tip: upper floors, ask for a corner room for great light

The Omni chain has made a habit of restoring older hotels and refurbishing them ... the William Penn in Pittsburgh is a good example. You can envision yourself back in the roaring 20s here...the lobby, meeting rooms, bars and restaurants all have the old charms of a historic time. The service was very good and I'd say it trends toward business travel, but would be nice for a getaway or something fun for a family too.

If you're looking for a Marriott-style business experience, however, this isn't it. The rooms are on the small side and sometimes a bit awkward because of the old layouts. One of the cooler -- and at first disorienting -- features is the airline aisle-like lighting at night when you're making your way to the bathroom. It took me a bit to figure out what was happening, but it was cool.

The lobby is a grand old location and the servers, etc. are very helpful. I'd definitely stay here again.

Top-notch service from everyone; comfortable beds and linens; excellent room service; and a convenient location made this a perfect stay for my conference.

The hotel is beautifully appointed and the decorations are luxurious. Every nook and cranny in the hotel are clean....no clutter, no garbage, no dirt....it was immaculate!

My room was in perfect shape, nothing wrong with it. Room service was brought during the time I'd asked for it to be delivered in the morning.

I wish my conference was longer so I could enjoy this lovely hotel!

We decided to stay here because of its central location. It is very impressive as you walk into the foyer. Lots of places to sit and chill - a great place to meet up.
Bedrooms are large and airy. Beds are so comfy and the pillows - I wanted to take those home!
Buffet breakfast - great choice - though a little expensive. We had b'fast a few mornings but there are plenty of places just along the street.
Would I stay here again - yes. I could have stayed in our room all day! - it was just so beautiful and comfortable1
