The Omni chain has made a habit of restoring older hotels and refurbishing them ... the William Penn in Pittsburgh is a good example. You can envision yourself back in the roaring 20s here...the lobby, meeting rooms, bars and restaurants all have the old charms of a historic time. The service was very good and I'd say it trends toward business travel, but would be nice for a getaway or something fun for a family too.
If you're looking for a Marriott-style business experience, however, this isn't it. The rooms are on the small side and sometimes a bit awkward because of the old layouts. One of the cooler -- and at first disorienting -- features is the airline aisle-like lighting at night when you're making your way to the bathroom. It took me a bit to figure out what was happening, but it was cool.
The lobby is a grand old location and the servers, etc. are very helpful. I'd definitely stay here again.More
