“Great location and accommodations for the price”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

I have stayed in this hotel in the past when it was not the Wyndham. It was not that nice but I stayed there due to location. I was pleasantly surprised of what a great job Wyndham did with their renovations. You can not beat this hotel for the price. If you are going to Oakland there is not a better location in town. The rooms are very spacious. The bathrooms are so large its almost dare I say wasted space. The only complaint I had was the towels are paper thin and rough. A travelers tip is make sure you are aware they will gouge your for parking. Its $20. Street parking is free after 6pm. The meters start again at 7am. They do not run on Sundays. If you get there at 4pm on Saturday through a few dollars in the meter to get your to 6pm and you are good to go. You can also park in Soldiers and Sailors lot for less.

Our room was very cold and we had to turn the heat way up in order to be comfortable. Also, we requested a room with a king bed and it was not available and we were given two queen beds instead. The room was cleaning but the lighting was bad. The bed was pretty comfortable as well.

My daughter and I stayed here for one night during a visit to Pitt. It is an appropriately described property at 3 stars.

Location: Immediately adjacent to Pitt admissions, one block from the Cathedral of Learning (the landmark skyscraper on campus), and an easy walk to local eateries and the rest of the Pitt campus and hospitals.

Staff and Public Areas: Staff was extremely friendly. We were allowed to check in early and Kourtney, when hearing that we were visiting the college, spent about 15 minutes with us sharing her experiences with us and suggesting things to see and do in the area. The lobby is spacious, clean and bright, and has computers with free internet available. We used the ground floor pool which was heated and very clean. We did not eat in the restaurant.

The room: A basic double with granite bathroom. Very clean. Beds were excellent with many pillows. The one knock on the place was the loudness of the heating unit (forced hot air, controlled by a wall-mounted thermostat). It was very cold when we were there so it came on frequently and woke me each time. The hotel itself was very quiet and I only heard one other person's door close while we were there.

Parking costs $20/day in the adjacent garage with unlimited in & out privileges.

We enjoyed Fuel & Fuddle, Joe Mama's, Essie's, and Pamela's for food while we were there. All recommended depending on how much punishment you wish to subject your cardiovascular system to.
