Description: “French comfort food”. These three words may not seem like they belong together but they do here at Le Lyonnais. Our concept is one of simple, affordable, yet delicious dishes inspired by time honored recipes from my hometown of Lyon some of which have been in my family for generations.

We were a group of five and had made reservations in advance which is highly recommended since this is a very sought after restaurant. It was a Saturday evening and extremely busy. Fortunately we were seated in the back section. The front can be noisy from the bar area. Our server was very good, professional and kept tabs on us. The meals came out in a timely fashion - courses were never rushed nor did we have to wait. Amazingly all five of us ordered duck -- which was exceptional in its flavor. We ordered serveral different salads and we all were pleased.

Our group received exceptional service during our recent visit for a special celebration. We had a large group of 40. The staff was so accommodating in every way. The food was really great. Even with the large group, the food was served quickly to everyone at our table and it was still hot. The server at our table was Bonnie and she was a real pro. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and especially for a special event since we were treated so well by everyone.

We went to Sonoma Grille for brunch before an afternoon Pops concert, and had a very nice meal, albeit a bit slow. There are two parts to the menu, a regular menu and a brunch menu where you can pick one, two or three courses. We all ordered off the brunch menu and the food was very good all around. The place was fairly empty, to be expected I assume on a football Sunday in Pittsburgh, but in spite of the small crowd, the meals took a long time. Two of us opted for the dessert, though the one we wanted, was evidently taken off the menu for a more seasonal offering, but the menu had not been changed to reflect that. We ended up with fantastic cinnamon sticky rolls. Again the service was very slow, but the food made up for it.

The atmosphere is sophisticated yet friendly... What we love about the 'Burgh lately!
Apple salad with a touch of caramel in the edge dressing, just like fall.
The filet was perfectly medium rare, tender succulent flavorful.
The salmon delectable on a cloud of butternut squash risotto cranberries for contrast and a little citrus crowning it all.
Barkeep knowledgable about wine, great suggestions to taste...
Lovely all around.
Oh did I mention dessert? Choco crispy crust later, choco creamy fluffy top layer, hazelnut crunch over there, nice.

We had an enjoyable experience at the Sonoma Grille. We ordered the avocado and crabmeat tian, another appetizer with "naan" in the title (can't remember the exact name), and the glazed Indonesian duck. Everything was well-prepared with excellent ingredients, although the dishes didn't quite have the "wow" factor. The wine list was good (all West Coast wines), and the service was excellent: an extremely congenial and attentive wait staff that was knowledgeable about the food and wine. One difference between Pittsburgh and restaurants in Sonoma, CA: we received twice as much duck as we would have in CA! The restaurant was a good value and I would definitely return.
