We went to Pittsburgh for a weekend "baseball" trip. On a Friday night, we were eventually directed to the Southside flats on Carson Street, where, as expected, there were a wealth of options to choose from for a beer and eats!
We arrived at about 8:00 on a Friday evening. Although the place was crowded, we did get immediate seating upon our arrival (one table opened up just as we walked in). We immediately ordered some beer, as our waitress was quick to get to our table.
As mentioned, the food was "typical" bar menu items, but the portions sizes and taste were definitely above average. I ended up with the "Hangover Special"; our waitress recommended the Philly Cheesteak, and I was leaning towards that, but eventually went for the other unique sandwich! The Hangover Special is a wrap stuffed with sirloin, jalapeno poppers, jalapenio peppers, banana peppers, roasted red and green peppers, nacho cheese sauce, and shredded cheese (not sure if I missed anything). It was actually very good. I thought maybe the jalapeno's would make the sandwich a little too hot/spciy for enjoyment, but it wasn't that bad at all, and the unique combinations made for some good eats.
While waiting for the food, we ended up having an excellent casual conversation with one of the managers behind the bar regarding sports, Pittsburgh in general, and things to do in town. Being that the establishment was very busy, the time he took to talk with us casually definitely spoke well for the place, and made our experience all the better.
The food was decent, there were plenty of TV's to watch the game, staff was friendly, and the beer was cold....sounds like a winning recipe to me!
