“Comfortable, beautiful, relaxing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

Inn on Negley has deep. plush layers of traditional decor in a spotless, gorgeous historic property. An easy walk to Walnut Streer's lively mix of shops and restaurants, you get the best of all worlds. The Empire room on the 3rd floor was a quiet oasis. Big comfy room with a big bathroom and a great shower, lots of counter space and Occitane products. Excellent breakfast served at your own table. Several dishes available in addition to the continental. Also a nice wine hour each evening. Friendly staff. A good choice even if you don't think you're a B&B type.

If you are new to visiting Pittsburgh or returning again, there is no better place to stay. In the beautiful neighborhood of Shadyside, this little gem is tucked away. Easy access to dining and public transportation to downtown as well as the Cathedral of Learning and Phipps Conservatory, this is the perfect location! The rooms are wonderfully appointed and the hosts seek to meet your every need. It is very quiet and peaceful here. I would return and highly recommend this B & B!!!

My wife and I have stayed at many Bed & Breakfast Inns over the years, but the Inn on Negley in Pittsburgh is one of the very best. We stayed in the Cortland Suite. It was well appointed, beautiful, and roomy with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The bathroom was also well designed and very large.

The staff is extremely friendly and all jump to help when you have a question or concern.

The breakfasts were excellent. And unlike many B&Bs, they gave you a choice of two or three possibilities every day that you would select the night before. The main breakfast selection changes from day to day and were all wonderful.

The only drawback to the Inn on Negley was it's location. Not because the Inn is in a bad neighborhood, or is out in the middle of no where, because it is within easy walking distance of a number of restarurants and upscale shops in a very nice area. But simply because if you want to see any of the major sights in Pittsburgh, you will have to drive to them. But that is more a function of Pittsburgh, and not something any B&B in Pittsburgh could "fix" -- it's just how the city works.

An excellent B&B and well worth a visit!

Thank you so much, we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us! We agree that it is too bad all of Pittsburgh's great attractions are spread out, we would pull them all in to our neighborhood if we could! We hope that our central location in the city at least made the drives to attractions on all sides of us fairly easy. For those without cars, or preferring public transportation, we are a quick walk away from a major busway. Thanks again!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. This B&B lives up to all the superlatives by previous posters on this site. Let me add a few specifics that might be helpful to future travelers.
- You have to book through the hotel's website (not Hotels.com, etc.), which is really a request for a reservation that is confirmed later by email from the hotel.
- The Braeburn room is on the first floor off by itself, near the office, but you won't be disturbed as there is very little noise.
- the 4 poster bed requires a two-step footstool to climb into. Not a problem for us, but wanted to alert others for whom it might be. The king bed extremely comfortable.
- Room is spacious -- no problem finding places for suitcases. Nice sitting area/desk.
- The free wireless works well.
- Bathroom has plenty of counter space for toiletries and a lighted makeup mirror (which I thought was hung a little low). Walk in shower is great. L'Occitane toiletries (and extras given during turndown service).
- All employees super-nice and helpful.
- Thermostat is in your room, so you set your own comfort level.
- Good choice of restaurants/bars available a short walk away, also a Whole Foods and drugstore.
- Free hot tea and coffee available at all times downstairs. Free ice tea and cookies in the afternoon. Free wine and cheese about 5 p.m. on Fri. and Sat.
- Free parking (though lot is small)
- Free breakfast cooked to order (chosen from options on a card the night before).
- Notice I'm commenting on "free." Other Pittsburgh hotels cost less BUT charges extra for parking, wireless, and breakfast, so this hotel really is comparable in value.
We would definitely stay here again.

The Inn on Negley is a beautiful b&b. The furnishings, wallpaper and rugs are just beautiful. The room (we were in N. Spy) is set up nicely with nice products (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, etc.). We only had 2 people, so I do not know how comfortable the sofa bed would be for a 3rd person. The breakfast was delicious, although not overwhelming (if you are spoiled like me, you might expect a huge breakfast that will allow you to skip lunch - you will not get that here, but what you do eat (chosen the night before on a card you fill out) is very tasty.). The afternoon iced tea and cookies were FABULOUS and a nice treat. We did not stay long enough to take advantage of the coffee and tea that are always available with to-go cups.

I have 2 picky criticisms that do not detract from my overall stay: 1) the shower head in N. Spy's beautiful bathroom is terrible. I think it is supposed be a massaging head, but it just spits out uneven streams of water that is not very comfortable, and 2) stuff is "for sale" - you will find a price tags on the teddy bear in your room and the bathrobe on display in the hall. There is a price list for other services and amenities in the room. That all feels too much like a big hotel to me. I would suggest keeping all that stuff on display downstairs to maintain the charm of the rooms.

So glad you enjoyed your stay, there's always next time for a longer visit! Thank you so much for alerting us to the poor quality of the shower head, it will be replaced immediately. We will also look into alternate ways to show guests what additional services/sales we have available. All great advice! Thanks again!

I absolutely loved my stay at the Inn! Our room was beautiful and welcoming- plenty of space, high ceilings, super comfy bed, wonderful bathroom, gas fireplace. The attention to detail was so impressive. And I loved the L'Occtaine products in the bathroom. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The staff is very accommodating and willing to help. They truly do an outstanding job. The food was incredible as well. My stay here was by far the best hotel/ B&B experience I have had in a long time. I can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Loved the Empire suite. It was on the top floor and very quiet.

We did not stay overnight at the Inn, but we did do the tea service. What an AWESOME experience! Service was great, the selection was lovely and there was no rush to be done. Definitely something to try. You DEFINITELY need a reservation! Even though we didn't stay, the manager welcomed us to tour the rooms -- STUNNING. I would love to have a little overnight getaway there one night!
