“Excellent Service, Good Food, but the Place is Dark”
Reviewed August 11, 2014

We sat upstairs but as someone else stated, the restaurant is DARK! Melissa, our server, knows this all too well and provided us with a mini flashlight so that we could read the menu. From our angle, we could watch the bartenders mixing drinks from above, and that was sort of cool. Melissa made great recommendations on both the drinks and the food. We had the brussel sprouts and pig candy for apps. The sprouts were delicious and more than enough for two (maybe too much because they were rich sprinkled with lots of parm cheese, I think). I had scallops and my husband had the flank steak. We were both totally satisfied with our choices (it's been a couple weeks since we dined there so I don't remember the details other than walking away feeling happy and full). The food is rich, so I recommend going slowly and not over ordering. The service was excellent. Don't forget to write in the server's book…a few words of wisdom or some pithy quote to share with others.

“Great food, great drink, great service”
Reviewed August 7, 2014 via mobile

Ryan served us at the bar for dinner as they were booked up. Very friendly and provided some suggestions, both were great. Close to PNC to grab a great meal before the ball game. Some unique menu items and some old standards. Great experience overall.

“400 whiskeys -- is there anything else that needs to be said?”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

400 whiskeys -- is there anything else that needs to be said? From rye to bourbon to scotch to Irish and on and on, this place has just about anything you could think of that comes in whiskey bottle. The selection is awesome and the prices are somewhat reasonable. As far as their food, it is certainly unique, but is also delicious. Even their "simple" options aren't so simple. Nevertheless, the old-school feel and rustic appearance make this place quite a hit. It's great for a night out for drinks or an evening meal.

If Bourbon isn't your thing, they've got a great selection of crafted cocktails that tend to please. Overall, it's great.

“Best restaurant in Pittsburgh”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

We ended our trip to Pittsburgh with dinner at Butcher and the Rye. It could not have been better!!! While we did not have a reservation, we arrived promptly at 5pm. The bars were full, but the host was able to seat us at an available table where we stayed for 2 hours. Cocktails were excellent, food (brussle sprouts, mac and cheese, pork belly, backed camembert) all delicious. If we ever find ourselves back in Pittsburgh, this place is a must!

“Great Drink!!”
Reviewed June 28, 2014

Stopped by after work with friends; ordered an Old Fashioned made with bourbon and it was delicious. Did not have any food although the dinners served looked great.

Only criticism is bar area small and crowded; also noisey,
