“Great room and staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2013

This was a last minute booking and I selected this hotel based on its proximity to Allegheny General Hospital. Apparently, they have many people stay here who have loved ones in the hospital. The staff is incredibly understanding and patient. I was amazed at how large my room was - two queen beds and a sleeper sofa! They have a shuttle that runs hourly to the hospital. I walked the first day but it's a little confusing so I would recommend sticking with the shuttle. My only complaint is the parking - i think it's pricey at $19 per day.

Our staff here at Springhill Suites North Shore understands that not all our guests are here for leasure or business reasons. Dealing with personal appointments or having loved ones attending Allegheny General Hospital can be a difficult time. Thats why our caring attentive staff is always available and flexible for your personal needs. Whenever it is necessary to attend the hospital please contact our front desk to reserve your overnight accomodations.

This is the second time I stayed at Springhill Suites and luckily I remember the advice I was given last time, which was to specifically ask for a room away from the freeway – which on each floor appears to be the lowest numbers (so if you’re in 601, for example, be happy). The freeway is VERY close to the hotel – literally so close that some rooms will be within 10 meters of cars going by. It is best to bring earplugs as if they cannot move you away then it is very noisy at times. To be honest, the heater/air con is also pretty noisy so, although I was as far from the freeway as I could get, it was freezing at night outside so I ran the heater most of the night and needed earplugs because of it.

Outside of this the hotel is OK. The rooms are a good size and are tidy but not meticulously clean – I found a sweet wrapper from the previous guest just under the bed and some marks on one of the pillows. The bed is comfortable though and the bathroom good enough to do the job. Breakfast is the same – not a great deal to talk about but enough to give you something to eat before heading out. Staff are friendly and helpful although it is a really weird lobby area they have – seems a bit awkward the way it is laid out.

A decent enough place then – good enough for a business traveler in town for local meetings or a traveling fan in for the Pirates game, but outside of this there really isn’t much to get excited about and there must be better than this despite its good location.

Room Tip: Lower numbers on each floor = further from freeway; which is where you want to be.

Not the typical soft Marriott beds. My back hurt after sleeping on this bed. Good food at the SoHo restaurant attached to the hotel. Location brought us here but the relaxation is why you stay at a Marriott or Hilton right? So get rid of the cheap beds.

Selected this hotel based on three factors: price, location and Marriott reward points. If I wasn't planning on going to the casino, I probably would have stayed in another location of Pittsburgh. The staff at the hotel were very courteous. The hotel's elevator was quirky, from the lobby, you had to hit the "down" button in order to go up, and once inside the elevator, you had to physically hold the floor you were travelling to until you reached said floor. The room was clean. The layout of the suite was different, it was very narrow between the wall and the foot of the bed. In order to get to the closet or the window you had to navigate the narrow passage way - with multiple people in the room, it was an annoyance. There was a free continental breakfast in the morning, which was very popular with most of the guests. The food was pretty standard and did the trick. Overall, I got a hotel room that I paid for, not disappointed.

The hotel was very nice. We loved the free shuttle service. We took the shuttle to Heinz Hall and back and church and back. Breakfast was great. The bar/restaurant was also great - Soho. Has a pool which we didn't use.

Not sure why but the Residence Inn was $30 more per night but only 20,000 Marriott Points and Springhill Suites was less expensive but 25,000 Points, they are right beside each other. That doesn't make sense to me but both hotels are exceptional.
