Daughter and son-in-law graduates!!! Need I say more? Is there a fee...Oh, Yea! Length of stay...until you get a degree(s). For an inter-city University, Pitt has it's good points and bad....but the education and medical facilities make up any negativity in location. The City of Pittsburgh boasts the STEELERS, The PIRATES, The PENGUINS, The SYMPHONY, The BALLET, The OPERA, The GATEWAY CLIPPER FLEET, and a vast cultural diversity.

You might say what's so great about a University and why would I want to tour it? Simple. It is one of the most beautiful inner-city Universities in America, sitting amongst beautiful buildings of many kinds all around it, with amazing examples of architecture. Walking the campus for a couple of hours is one of the nicest experiences you will ever have in a city atmosphere for a university and good exercise too. If you want to be really adventuresome and get some real exercise, walk to the top of the hill and visit the athletic facilities at the crest of the hill overlooking the city below. Looking across the baseball diamond the downtown skyline is in the background. Adjacent to the University is the Stephen Collins Foster Memorial and Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art, Schenley Park which is spectacular, and the Military Memorial which is wonderful as well.

We came to visit University of Pittsburgh during one of their day-long Saturday programs. Overall, it was nicely done although I wished there was more time to participate in more of the activities. You only had time for 3 sessions but they offered 7 activities. But if both parents came, you could divide & conquer!
They give you breakfast (muffin, granola, fruit cup & drinks), lunch in the cafeteria, free parking and swag when you visit the academic marketplace to see the various depts. and divisions. Best of all, if you applied that day, they will waive the $45 application fee. It's a win-win for all concerned. All you need to do is send them your scores and transcript.
The Pitt Pathfinders did a good job "selling" the school. The Cathedral of Learning is a must-see. Overall, I think it's a good school, good location and the city seems friendly- not too big, not too small. I would not feel unsafe walking around the campus, if you use common sense.
