“Quaint but average food”
Reviewed May 27, 2013 via mobile

Quaint, small, downtown restaurant. I ordered classic dishes of lamb kebab and freshly baked baklava. Prices were good, but the food was only fair. The best part of the meal was the desserts. I also noticed they serve something like Turkish coffee that was served with flair to another diner. Conveniently located across the river from PNC stadium nestled among other restaurants.

“Good food (but not awesome), very resonnably priced in a quaint atmosphere”
Reviewed April 13, 2013

This is not the best Greek restaurant we've been to but we had many starters and we liked all of them, especially the grilled eggplant with garlic paste and the spanakopita. However, the tarama lacked taste. The lamb kebab was also really good.
The hostess was very friendly and passionate, maybe a bit overwhelming :-)
On the downside, the cleanliness seemed to be "uncertain".

“Old World Charm”
Reviewed March 13, 2013 via mobile

Pulled in off the street by our waitress, we enjoyed Christo's close and familiar atmosphere. They had an extensive menu with vegetarian options. The house wine was superb! We were there near closing time (the only people left), and there was a heated argument between a server and the owner. Despite his unprofessional actions, the other staff were pleasant.

“Pittsburgh's Greek Taverna”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

Had an early dinner before a game, and was pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of the Greek cuisine. All in a very affordable, friendly taverna atmosphere. The tiropita, and spanikopita were almost as good as my grandmother's. The Greek salad, though Americanized was excellent, with a nice sprinkling of feta cheese, and anchovies (optional). The Salmon Piraeus, and the roast lamb were classics and very well done. The free glasses of wine were also very much appreciated. Baklava was good, but the "famous" Jackie O cake was truly delicious. Christos the owner was very pleasant and we had a nice conversation about Greece, where he is from --Ikaros--and where we had traveled in Greece. We'll be back!

“For that Taverna experience and change from your Drachma.”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Stopped in for a dinner before a show at the Public. Selected it based on the tried and true "most crowded restaurant around" method, and we weren't disappointed. Good, hearty food well cooked at an affordable price; with a house wine that was out of this world. The manager and wait-staff (all family, I think) were hard pressed to be really sociable, but they came by and chatted, answered questions and made recommendations.

It isn't fine dining, but it was perfect on a cold night, and fellow diners were friendly and it has an authentic neighborhood feel to it, even if it is downtown. I have no problems recommending Christo's to visitors and friends alike.

The dishes are varied and seem authentic from what little exposure I've had to Greek dishes.
