Description: Penn Brewery began brewing craft beer back in 1986, making us one of the earliest pioneers in the American craft movement. We started out brewing classic lagers and German beer styles, adhering to the strict quality standards of the 16th-century Bavarian Reinheitsgebot purity laws. As we’ve expanded our lineup in recent years to include IPAs and other contemporary styles like chocolate and pumpkin beers, we’ve stayed true to our quality craftsmanship, brewing all of our beers by hand with top-tier barley and hops. We’re proud to say that Penn beers have won a total of nineteen Great American Beer Festival® and World Beer Cup® medals. Penn Brewery’s restaurant serves “ethnic-Pittsburgh” fare including wurst, schnitzel, pierogi, and goulash alongside contemporary Pittsburgh favorites, like the "French fry salad," flatbreads, and sandwiches. In the spirit of our classic Pittsburgh theme, our menu emphasizes fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Penn is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week. A lovely cobblestone biergarten is open seasonally. Private party bookings are also available.

“Real Oktoberfest atmosphere”
Reviewed September 23, 2012

Although we knew the beer would be great, we were pleasantly surprised with the food. Although we just had an assortment of appetizers, everything was very good. The potato pancakes were wonderful, and the beer cheese and pretzels very tasty. We went during the Oktoberfest celebration, and the Oktoberfest beer was exceptional. Wish they had served it in real glasses instead of plastic though.

They had "oompah" music, and the obligatory wandering accordion player - neither of which I care for, but I have to admit it made for a fun time. Because of Oktoberfest they had various outside areas set up.

Only negative was parking - lot was filled by 6:00 and we had to park in a residential area.

“Beer=perfection.”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

Simply put, the beer is amazing. On a scale from 1-10, it gets a 10, while Church Brew Works get s 9.5.
The food is 'good' but not fantastic. A tad overpriced for the small portions.
I much rather prefer the food at Church Brew Works.
A great place to showcase to out of town friends.

“Great beer in a classic atmosphere!!”
Reviewed September 13, 2012 via mobile

Had a professional society meeting in their banquet hall and it was quite nice. The staff is very helpful. The food was delicious and the of course the beer was great! Try the Ocoberfest or Penn Pilsner is a classic. I always like their Pale Ale also but didn't have one last night. Get there! It is a great place we Pittsburgh folks are proud of!!
