“Great Buffet with Veggie and Non-Veggie choices”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

This is the one and only GOTO place in pittsburgh for great indian food.
I have had a chance to explore buffet options in New York,Toronto, Niagra, Jersey City and Pittsburgh and this is the best when you compare the taste and price.

It is my favourite Weekend Brunch place. Its definitely a sigh of relief specially for the people looking for authentic Indian taste

The buffet spread was good. Re-filled the dishes on time. Everything on the menu was really nice.

“Good food, good service”
Reviewed March 13, 2007

Whenever we get the chance, my husband and I take the opportunity to try a new Indian restaurant. We adore Indian food, especially hot, spicy curries, so we decided to try Tamarind located on Greentree Road in Pittsburgh. We have visited this restaurant twice already and have enjoyed it both times. The last time we went, we tried deep friend chilis as an appetizer. They weren't as spicy as we had imagined, but they were still full of flavor. Their chicken and lamb curry entree dishes are very tasty, as is their chicken vindaloo. Our servers have been quiet but are extrememly attentive to their guest's needs. We definitely suggest Tamarind for those individuals who have never experienced Indian food before, and to those who adore it, like ourselves!

“Probably the best Indian restaurant in Pgh”
Reviewed August 27, 2006

"Tamarind -- Savoring India" is a small, clean South Indian restaurant tucked away in a strip mall in the Greentree suburb of Pittsburgh. It's owned and run by a group of young Indian IT professionals who pooled their resources to hire a top-quality chef from India. The flavors of his food are totally authentic and some of his dishes truly inspired. Dinners are very good but a bit more conventional than the outstanding lunch buffets where the chef pretty much makes whatever he feels like. Friday, Saturday and Sunday seem to be the best buffet days for variety, but the quality is high every day. There's generally an excellent biryani (a savory rice and meat casserole) on Sundays, and there are always lots of vegetarian options. Some of the highlights of the dinner menu are the vegetable biryani, shrimp masala, bhindi (okra) masala, and mattar paneer. On the buffet, if available, the pumpkin curry, chicken chettinad, vegetable pakodas, red chili-coconut chutney, green bean thoran, and the aforementioned biryanis are real stand-outs. For true Indian home-style cooking, Tamarind and Udupi (in Monroeville) are the only places to go in Pittsburgh. Well worth a trek out to the boonies. (One small warning, the chef seems to take a long vacation in July/August, and even though whoever replaces him seems to use the same recipes, the food doesn't taste nearly as good then.)
